Job description
The essential job functions include functions such as conducting patient vitalization; performing various health screenings; obtaining patient demographic information; gathering patient health maintenance data; assisting with patient flow during clinic hours; directing patients to exam rooms; maintaining exam rooms daily; checking equipment to ensure proper functioning; preparing exam rooms between patients and between clinics; performing venipuncture and other specimen collections; administering vaccinations; conducting inventory check; initiating process for ordering clinic supplies as assigned; and maintaining appropriate logs as per schedule.
In addition, the incumbent will conduct patient and specimen transport between areas on ZSFG Campus as needed.
Note: This position requires a physical/health screening.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description
Ward 86, the HIV/AIDS Clinic at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) campus, has been a leader and innovator in field of HIV care since the beginning of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Ward 86 is the largest clinic providing primary medical care for people living with HIV in the San Francisco Health Network (SFHN) and also provides preventive services to patients at-risk for HIV infection, including pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Ward 86 provides care to approximately 2400 patients living with HIV, with over 22,000 clinical encounters a year.
Services are offered through a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach, addressing primary medical and HIV care, urgent care, mental health evaluation and treatment, substance use assessment, treatment and referrals, HIV prevention services, and HIV specialty care needs
Required Qualifications
- Three years appropriate experience
- One year of supervisory experience where applicable
- High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Certified in Phlebotomy (California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I)
- Excellent Phlebotomy skills
- Excellent skills; must be exceptionally well organized and detail-oriented; able to set priorities and follow through on assigned tasks
- Knowledge of medical terminology appropriate to job responsibilities
- Basic mathematical/computational skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a busy team-oriented environment
- Ability to push/pull 50lbs or greater while performing patient transport (wheelchair) within ZSFG Campus
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years experience working as a Medical Assistant
- Graduation from a Medical Assistant Program
- Prior experience working in a primary care setting
- Experience working with patients living with HIV/AIDS
- Fluency in Spanish, ability to speak and communicate effectively with mono-lingual patients
- Familiar with electronic health record systems, Microsoft Word, and Excel
License/Certification
- Certified in Phlebotomy (California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
