Job description
As a phlebotomist you are responsible for the collection of blood samples by venepuncture from patients attending the hospital either as an inpatient or outpatient. The post holder is responsible for following the correct procedures in order to ensure safety of patients and themselves. This will include identifying any risks and managing them appropriately, including clear identification of specimens that are an infection hazard and appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE). The cleanliness and maintenance of all equipment used by the phlebotomist should be checked as required and any faults reported immediately as per the relevant SOP (standard operating procedure).
If necessary, the operator will need to implement the BCP (Business Continuity Plan) to ensure continuity of the service.
