Job description

Job Title: Domiciliary Phlebotomist Reports To: Business Transformation Lead Job Summary: Working under the direct supervision of the business transformation lead and the team leader strictly in accordance with specific guidelines and protocols. The post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture to obtain blood samples from housebound patients and patients in care / nursing homes. Patients will be referred directly into the service from one of several GP Practices in the Leeds South & East Area. They will also be responsible for carrying out blood pressure measurements.

Duties and Responsibilities: Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample Collection of sample(s)s of blood in accordance with training and procedures Checking patients BP and recording in patient file Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers Accurate, labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity using ICE Checking patient identification against GP/nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible Recording collection of blood sample and any additional tests carried out in patient medical record in accordance with organisation procedure Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion. Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff Notifying the GP/nurse of any significant patient issues Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team Responsible for insuring their car for business use T&Cs Mobile phone cost allowance Mileage paid at 45p/mile 27 days holiday plus bank holidays rising to 30 days after 5 years service, and 33 days after 10 years service for full time equivalent.
