Job description
We are looking to expand our phlebotomy service at Eastbourne EDGH and are able to offer a part time post of 20 hours a week. The post will require some weekend and bank holiday working and may on occasion require working at other ESHT sites if required.
As a service we provide a phlebotomy service to the hospital wards seven days a week and busy outpatient clinics week days only as well as a new Community Diagnostic Center unit in Bexhill.
We are looking for applicants with Phlebotomy experience and are competent in the use of Vacuette system but training will be provided to candidates with the right qualities to join this busy team.
The successful candidate will be required to complete a probationary period during which they will undertake a competency assessment supported by the team leader.
To collect blood samples from patients in accordance with venepuncture, infection control and laboratory policies and procedures. This will include collecting samples within the hospital and the Phlebotomy Clinic in order to achieve efficient and effective patient care and effective resource management within the hospital.
The post holders will be required to complete and pass an in-house venepuncture competency programme.
The post holder must be polite and diplomatic whilst speaking directly to medical staff or patients and provide advice solely on the process of obtaining samples within Phlebotomy. They greet patients, take telephone bookings and enter details on the department’s computer when a receptionist is not available.
