Due to a promotion, we have an exciting senior medicines management role to cover mainly our High Dependency Unit and Critical Care Unit wards.

This role will mainly involve working with Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and other health care professionals on providing Medicines Management services at ward level.

The post holder will support the ward pharmacists to carry out medicines reconciliation for our newly admitted patients and the assessment of patients own drugs. You will support in the day to day coordination of the dispensary and of the satellite pharmacy by providing original pack dispensing, patient counselling, top-up service and co-ordination of the supply of discharge medicines to our patients.

This post will also be involved with the Education, Training and Development of our junior technicians, students and other MDT team.

You will be an Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) and be, working towards the Medicines Optimisation Programme (MOP) or equivalent. You will be required to complete the Practice Supervisor (PS) or Educational Supervisor (ES) course.

You must have evidence of registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and have good post qualification experience working as a Pharmacy Technician within an NHS Hospital Pharmacy.

This includes health visitors and school nurses who are delivering the national Healthy Child Programme, which provides a structured framework for the delivery of key interventions to support the health and wellbeing of children and families from 0 to 5 and school aged children from 5-19. The 0-19 service aims to improve pathways and partnerships with services in the hospital and deliver excellent care for the children and families.

This Senior Pharmacy Technician – Medicines Management post will develop, introduce, monitor, and assess systems for the safe, efficient, and timely provision of medicines management at ward level in accordance with Trust and departmental objectives and agreed between the post-holder, the chief Technician ET&D and MMT and Lead Technician MMT.

The post holder will work closely with the ward pharmacists and support them by undertaking patient medication histories of newly admitted patients, assessment of patients own drugs, counselling patients about their medicines and co-ordinating the supply of discharge medicines and dispensing TTAs on the wards via satellite pharmacy. This post will also be involved with ward top-ups.

The post holder will act as a role model and support training and staff development by acting as a mentor / trainer for apprenticeship qualifications, in-house and external training/ accreditation

The post holder will deputise for the Lead Pharmacy Technician Medicines Management in their absence
