Job Context Five Elms PCN are seeking to collectively employ a Pharmacy Technician. The post holder will work closely with GP Practice Managers and staff, with GPs and with allied community health. The post holder will be employed by Norheads Lane Surgery which is the host organisation that has been selected by the PCN to provide support for these roles but can expect to be based in practices (or at home). Management support to the post holder will be provided by the PCN Manager.
Key responsibilities Pharmacy Technicians play an important role, complementing Clinical Pharmacists, Community Pharmacists and other members of the Primary Care Network (PCN) multi-disciplinary team (MDT). Pharmacy Technicians are different to Clinical Pharmacists as they are not able to prescribe or make clinical decisions, instead working under supervision to ensure effective and efficient use of medicines. The Pharmacy Technician's core responsibilities will cover clinical, technical and administrative categories. The role will require the post holder to: Undertake patient facing and patient supporting roles Carry out medicines optimisation tasks Support medication reviews and medicines reconciliation Provide specialist expertise, where competent Take a central role in the clinical aspects of shared care protocols Support initiatives for antimicrobial stewardship Work with the PCN MDT to ensure efficient medicines optimisation Provide training / support on the legal, safe and secure handling of medicines Develop relationships and work with practice teams Support the implementation of national prescribing policies and guidance Undertake clinical audits, support quality improvement measures and contribute to the Quality and Outcomes Framework and enhanced services Assist in the delivery of medicines optimisation incentive schemes and patient safety audits Provide leadership for medicines management systems across PCNs Qualifications and Experience Essential English and Maths GCSE or equivalent BTEC / NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmacy services Evidence of ability to both work autonomously and to seek support and guidance when appropriate.
Evidence of achieving targets and proactive approach Experience working in General Practice Proficient in MS Office and EMIS Knowledge and understanding of pharmacy law and ethics and current legislation. An appreciation of the nature of primary care prescribing, concepts of rational prescribing and strategies for improving prescribing. Desirable Evidence of working within a multidisciplinary team Evidence of target-based work experience Evidence of continued professional development Knowledge of the principles of medicines optimisation.
