Job description
To assist in the preparation, dispensing and sale of prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines/appliances and assist with stock control, ordering and re-stocking of the dispensary.
IT skills are essential as there is a wide range of administration work required.
Other aspects of the role include:
- Collection of prescription charges/checking patient exemption status
- Handling prescription money and operating/balancing the till
- Operation of efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the dispensary with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage of medication
- Ensuring that drugs are received and stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the manufacturers’ instructions
- Taking orders for repeats and dealing with queries from patients, doctors, nurses and support staff
- Using the computer to keep up to date patient records and manage repeat prescriptions
- Providing cover for annual leave/sickness
- Communicating effectively with patients, carers and other team members
- Recognising people’s needs for alternative methods of communication and responding accordingly
- Adhering to practice policies, standard operating procedures and guidance
- Full clean driving license preferable to cover delivery driver for annual leave/sickness
