Then we may have the job for you. Whilst dispensing experience is preferable it is not essential, willingness to undergo training and be flexible in the workplace is.

Working as part of a team you will play an integral part in the supply of medicines to patients who use our hospital services.

Working within a busy department you will need good communication skills to work with your team and service users. You must be able to present yourself in a professional manner.

Accuracy and attention to detail is imperative as you will be involved in the supply of medicines. You will need to be able to prioritise and adapt to the needs of the service thought the day. To ensure as a member of the pharmacy department you deliver a cost effective and high quality service.

If you do not already have a Level 2 Pharmacy qualification, you will be needed to complete this training as required by the General Pharmaceutical Council.

You will be required to participate in weekend, late night and bank holiday rotas.

Key Responsibilities:
To carry out dispensing and issuing of medicines from the pharmacy department to include extemporaneously prepared products, Controlled Drugs, unlicensed and clinical trials, in accordance with the policies, procedures and safe systems of work, which prevail in the department at the time.

To participate in the ordering and supply of pharmaceuticals as part of the ward stock top-up service.

To participate in NVQ level 2 training where appropriate in line with government legislation.

To co-operate in all aspects of reception duties.

To input data into the Pharmacy computer system to ensure all appropriate records are made and kept up-to-date.

To undertake the receipt of goods ensuring that documentation and computer entry is carried out in a timely and accurate manner.

To release purchase orders, expedite overdue orders, and liaise with suppliers over delivery and supply chain issues, keeping line manager fully briefed about key operational matters.

To receive deliveries and process receipts through the Pharmacy computer system according to prevailing local procedures.

To investigate and resolve delivery discrepancies, liaising with invoicing staff and suppliers, making appropriate records of all investigations and outcomes.

To ensure that all unused medicines (if appropriate) returned to the pharmacy are recycled in accordance with the safe systems of work and participate in the safe disposal of medicines at all times in accordance with departmental procedures.

To assist in the compilation of departmental statistics.

To participate in the delivery of medicines to ward and departments.

To participate in training and to highlight training needs.

To participate in, and co-operate with, individual personal assessment and continuing education programmes in order to keep abreast of pharmaceutical matters and legislative changes which affect pharmacy.

To participate in development and project work in line with the objectives of the Trust and Pharmacy Directorate.

Ensure that procedures are carried out in accordance with current legislation and regulations in respect of the Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH and that other pertinent recommendations and standards are complied with.

To participate and co-operate in weekend, Bank Holiday, Statutory Holiday, early morning and evening services as per departmental arrangements.

To undertake such reasonable duties as may be required from time to time.

The post holder will be expected to adapt to changes that may occur, which may affect the current practices within the Pharmacy Department, such as the introduction of new equipment, procedures, policies and hours of working.

To ensure that total confidentiality throughout the Trust is upheld at all times.
