Job Summary:
The post-holder will carry out day to day activities connected with the preparation and supply of medicines and will provide advice to patients on the use of medicines as well as on general health and lifestyle matters.
Role and Responsibilities:
The post-holder will:
· Abide by the GPhC Standards, observing and applying all professional, ethical and legal obligations
· Implement and adopt standard operating procedures, to ensure procedures are in place for the avoidance of risk . This will include developing, maintaining and implementing standard operating procedures as per the needs of the pharmacy
· Proactively contribute to the growth and development of the Pharmacy as well as accountability for profit targets and all KPI's.
· Dispense prescription medicines to patients, checking dosage and ensuring that medicines are correctly and safely labelled and supplied
· Supervise the safe preparation of any medicines
· Liaise with GPs and Nurse Prescribers regarding prescriptions to ensure accuracy and prevent risk
· To counsel and advise patients on the treatment of minor ailments and any adverse side effects of medicines or potential interactions with other medicines/treatments to ensure safe use
· Share responsibility for keeping and maintaining a register of controlled drugs for legal purposes
· Share responsibility for overseeing the ordering and storage of medical products to ensure safety and reduce waste
· Share responsibility for ensuring that all dispensing errors and near misses are logged in accordance with the pharmacy procedures and to undertake any activity necessary to rectify or prevent errors
· Maintain computerised records in accordance with data protection principles to ensure patient confidentiality
· Ensure that all present and future NHS contractual obligations in respect of essential services are adhered to, including waste management, DPO (Data Protection Officer), self-care, signposting, public health and repeat dispensing
· To keep up-to-date with current pharmacy practice, new drugs and their uses for the purpose of continuing profession development
· Share responsibility for ensuring effective communication within the Practice Team
· Yearly CPAF Questionnaire and I G Tool Kit must be completed and signed off
· Ensuring Pharmacy compliance with all clinical governance requirements i.e complaints and audits
· To maximise income by engaging in Quality Payments Scheme
· To complete medicines use reviews and new medicines service to agreed targets
· Carry out any reasonable task as requested
