Job description
About us
If you love dogs this is your dream job. We work with all shapes, sizes, breeds and personalities and there is never a dull moment. Be part of a fun, supportive and close knit team.
Happy Waggers & Sleepy Whiskers is a small business in Kidsgrove. Our goal is to provide premium reliable pet care in our local area. We provide dog walking one to one and group (maximum 5 dogs) and pet sitting visits in owner's homes for all animals.
Our work environment includes:
- Casual work attire
- On-the-job training
- Growth opportunities
You must have experience with dogs and be comfortable with walking them on and off lead. Most dog walking services are completed between 9am and 3pm Monday to Friday but evening and weekend flexibility is desirable for extra walks and pet sitting visits. You must be reliable and trustworthy, often customers are relying on us to care for their pets because they are out or at work.
This is not an 'easy' job. You must be physically fit as the job can be quite demanding but very rewarding. You will be walking in public areas, although we know quiet routes, you will be responsible for the safety of all the dogs in your care. This means you will be highly observant of the surrounding environment and in tune with body language changes in the dogs. You must also be happy to walk in all weathers.
Our customers love photos so you will need to take photos with your phone and send an up date to customers after the walk is complete. We have an online system which shows your diary and enables you to do this.
To apply for this role you don't need any set skills, education, work experience or qualifications; we will provide full training working alongside our team members.
However, to achieve success you must be:
- Naturally confident working with dogs of all sizes & temperaments
- Calm in the face of stress
- Good at thinking 'on your feet'
- Highly observant of the surrounding environment
- Fair and humane in your treatment of all animals
- Quick to pick up new hands on skills
- Interested in dog behaviour and training
- Able to adapt your strategy based on the changing environment
- Good at communicating clearly with humans
- Polite with members of the public
- Happy working outside in all weather conditions
- A fan of variety
You will also need to be DBS checked for entering customer's homes. You will also need to complete a pet first aid training course.
Driving licence and suitable vehicle is a must. You will need to collect the dogs, drive them to a suitable walk location and then drop them home again. You are responsible for keeping your vehicle roadworthy and insured to ensure the dogs safety. You will need to kit your vehicle out for safe transport of the dogs (dog guard in the back, or on the seats on harness and seatbelts).
This job is on a self-employed basis and paid per service completed. This is a part-time role which may become full-time. Earning potential depends on how busy you want to be. Immediate start.
Please provide a CV and cover letter.
