Job description
Mosaic 1898 is assisting a family in recruiting 2 PAs for a young person in the LE2 area.
They wish to employ a male and female PA. The young person is nonverbal, has learning disabilities, Low Muscle tone, autism and high sensory needs.
Knowledge of Autism and sensory difficulties is desirable, as is a knowledge of PEC cards however the willingness to learn will be considered.
The PA’s will be required to work together as this is a double up call. This is for 8 hour a week for each PA during the term time and 10 hours per week each PA during school holidays.
The family requires the support to be on a Saturday and Sunday 11.00am until 3pm during term time, and the addition of the Monday during the school holiday. The rate of pay for this post is £13.00 per hour.
To assist in all areas of personal and social and day to day activities as required.
Duties (As required, instructed or directed by employer)
- Support with accessing social activities within the community and home – for example, swimming, park, cinema, garden.
- Support with personal care when out if required
- Support with pushing wheelchair if tires when out in the community
- Requires driver with own car available to use for employer – business use insurance necessary.
Working with Children with Disabilities
To provide assistance at the right time, enabling the child/young person to lead an independent/individual lifestyle in their own home within the community.
The PA should understand their role to assist with the self-defined needs of the child/young person, and feel confident to ask what these needs are, and listen to requests and follow directions given.
The PA should:
- meet the job’s physical requirements (e.g., moving & handling)
- Arrive at the required times ready to work.
- Contact immediately if going to be more than 15 minutes late.
- Establish close working relationship on one-to-one basis.
- If problems arise, discuss & resolve immediately.
- Maintain confidentiality, respect privacy of employer.
- Have a current driving licence.
The PA’s Attitude: —
- Appreciate stresses & strains of parent/carer employer and child/young person, and the effect this can have on the acceptance of help.
- Understand that the preservation of dignity & independence is important.
- Respect the possessions & equipment in the employer’s home.
- Use of the telephone, television, radio etc should only be with employer’s prior consent.
- Any questions regarding tasks should be clarified before starting.
- Duties/hours of work required may vary according to requirements.
Learning the Job
Daily tasks will be learnt and familiarised through PA & employer working together. There are Moving & Handling & Hoist Awareness Courses that can be arranged. If PAs do not have formal training certificates, then we recommend that training courses are taken.
