Personal Assistants required to join a small, friendly and fun care team to support a disabled and independent 40 year old gentleman in Thatto Heath, St Helens.
The client lives with a C4/5 spinal cord injury - he has no use of his body from the chest down and very limited hand function. He is looking for someone who will be committed to support him with all aspects of his care and life.
The client lives in an adapted property and has support 24 hours per day. He has a wide variety of interests such as; Watching live music, Exercising, Cooking, Watching TV (especially Motorcycle Racing, Cars and Mountain Bikes), having good conversations, exploring new ventures, travelling and the outdoors.
The client requires support for 48 hours per week, ideally shared across 1-2 staff comprising 2x12 hour day shifts and 2x12 hour waking night shifts.
Ideal candidate/s will have training in: Catheters, Bowel care, cough assist, manual handling and spinal injury, though all training will be provided.
A knowledge of Autonomic Dysreflexia is also advantageous, but not essential.
Care tasks in this role include support for all aspects of care, such as;
- Showering, dressing, personal grooming and daily bowel care
- Monitoring and recording the client's health, with particular attention to pressure sores
- Administration of medication
- Manual handling, bed rolling and transferring from bed to chair
- Supporting with shopping, and maintaining the home e.g. cooking, cleaning and general household tasks
- Support in the community
- Daily physio/stretching routine
- Stocktaking and ordering supplies
- Support with eating and drinking
Applicants should be dedicated and reliable, as well as being; caring and patient, resourceful and self-motivated, flexible, good at listening and communicating, consistent, energetic, chatty (but not loud),easy-going, sociable, hard working, punctual, attentive, trustworthy. Non-smokers preferred.
Carers need to work as part of a team and be available to cover extra shifts e.g. holiday cover, sickness, additional training if required/as and when needed.
On occasion the role may require working and driving around the UK, depending on his activities and plans.
The role may also require accompanying the client on holidays (at home and abroad).
