Job description

Reporting to the Manufacturing Improvement Manager the Performance Improvement Engineers are responsible for the management of a suite of measures and standards, in a given Process Stream, including business critical KPIs and SOPs through the application and management of the infinite loop (performance control and loss reduction model) and the implementation of the Pink, Yellow and Green agendas.
Key activities and responsibilities;
Safety
  • Responsible for health and safety within allocated process stream
  • Responsible for 5S, including audits within allocated process stream
  • Conduct initial accident investigations, as required
  • Conduct safe / unsafe behaviour discussions with employees
Area Daily / Weekly Control
Daily control (of KPIs) to minimise process deviations
  • Review process performance through a daily summary and escalation meeting with the Production Manager
  • Work with Operators and the Pillars to improve data quality, review and update standards, eradicate forbidden losses and ensure effective communication and implementation
  • Attend daily production plan deployment meeting
  • Actions on deviations to ensure product flow, KPIs and project progress
Loss Reduction Projects
Working with Operators and Pillar support to drive continuous improvement projects
  • Manage Loss Reduction Actions or projects to eradicate losses and improve KPI performance
  • Facilitate weekly project meetings and ensure daily that agreed actions are being completed
Quarterly KPI Loss Analysis / Phased Plans
  • Review quarterly performance data and KPI loss analysis, confirm loss reduction plan for following quarter and KPI targets.
Employee Engagement
  • Ensure effective communication with employees
  • Support the Aberdare Production Manager with people related actions
  • In conjunction with employees develop, maintain and communicate SOPs
  • Ensure effective handovers are completed
Skills and experience
Candidates will possess a good level of general education and will ideally be qualified to a minimum HND, although appropriate work experience would also qualify. You will have experience in the manufacturing process and be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of cable manufacturing methods and techniques in addition to a sound theoretical engineering knowledge.
You will have a good level of computer literacy and be capable of analysing data, drawing conclusions and identifying actions to be taken. The ability to communicate effectively at a variety of levels and accurately convey at time technical information is essential, as is the ability to influence to ensure the achievement of results.
Candidates will be required to participate in a structured training program, provided by an external provider, focusing on the Infinite Loop performance control and loss reduction model and continuous improvement tools, delivered weekly on-site in Aberdare.
PIE will be required to provide on a rota basis, out of hours support including limited on-site working at weekends.

This role is based in our offices near the Eastleigh town centre. The address is Prysmian Cables & Systems Limited, Chickenhall Lane, Eastleigh, SO50 6YU. There are good transport links to Eastleigh and the site is approximately 15 minutes walk from the railway station. We are able to offer free car parking next to our offices.
