Pension roles

Glasgow (Hybrid working)

Competitive salary, plus performance related bonus

Permanent, happy to talk flexible working

Help us create a better future, quicker

Scottish Power has two defined benefit schemes, plus one stakeholder pension scheme. The two defined benefit schemes are closed to new entrants but remain open to future benefit accrual. These are large and very complex schemes which are currently overseen by boards of Trustees and managed by a team of 8 based in Glasgow, headed up by the UK Pensions Director.

Due to a busy pension agenda and as part of succession planning, the inhouse Pensions Team is expanding and several roles are available. Given the rich variety of work undertaken, this would ideally suit candidates from a variety of pension backgrounds, e.g. actuary / actuarial analysts, pension investment analysts or governance and pensions administration . This is an exciting and rare opportunity for any pension professionals seeking to transition inhouse, or existing inhouse pension professionals looking to join a dynamic and busy team.

What you’ll be doing

The specific job descriptions will vary by role. All roles will support the Pensions Director and wider team to deliver a best in class service to the Trustee Boards and support the corporate sponsor to develop strategy and approach on key pension matters, as well as the opportunity to drive critical projects. Whilst the roles will focus on the UK Pensions schemes, they will have a strong working relationship with our Iberdrola Group Pensions function.

Depending on your specific background, roles vary from assisting the Trustee Boards in managing the third party administration to providing input on funding objectives, investment strategy, liability management and general analytical support to Corporate, Iberdrola HR and Group Finance in relation to pension costs.

Successful candidates will ensure legal and regulatory compliance in line with UK standards, ability to improve business practices while contributing to the economic, efficient, and effective use of resources.

You will build and maintain successful relationships with key external stakeholders e.g., auditors, lawyers, trustees as well as internal functions, e.g. Internal Audit, Tax, Finance and as a member of the HR function, contributing to the wider reward & benefits agenda, providing appropriate technical pensions support.

What you’ll bring

To join, you’ll be an experienced pensions professional with knowledge of the UK Pensions landscape. Professional qualifications such as PMI, actuarial or investment are desirable, but not essential.

There are several roles available so experience in any of the following is desirable (not necessarily all of the below):

· Knowledge and understanding of IAS19 pension accounting

· Pension investment

· Pensions financial management, e.g. scheme accounting/audits, pension tax considerations, scheme returns

· Pensions administration

· Pensions project management

· Experience of reporting to a regulatory body such as Ofgem.

· Experienced user of all Microsoft Office applications at advanced level.

It is important that you are a strong team player able to work well in a small dynamic team, providing support and assistance to colleagues as required. You will have a solid track record of being able to multi-task projects, sometimes with competing priorities..

You will have the ability to balance the potentially conflicting needs of the Group and the Trustees whilst maintaining the appropriate level of confidentiality and independence. Successful candidates will have excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will be resilient, able to work flexibility, have the ability to adjust quickly according to changing priorities, and be able to draw on prior experience, expertise, to work with key members of the wider pension team to deliver results. Being results oriented and delivery focused, you’ll have a proactive approach and ability to provide hands-on support.

What’s in it for you

As well as a competitive salary, you can also enjoy a number of other benefits. With our pension scheme, we’ll double match your contribution up to a company contribution of 10%.
