Pensions - Investment Manager
A rare and exciting opportunity to join AZ’s global pensions team in Macclesfield.
Description
Reporting to the Group’s Global Pensions Director, you will play a key part in developing funding and investment strategy, including overseeing the Group’s $10bn investment programme. The role offers excellent opportunities to gain direct exposure to senior stakeholders within the Group, as well as to leading external investment managers and key thinkers in the investment and pensions industry.
Key Tasks
The role includes but is not limited to:
- Providing input on strategic policy for the Group on all pensions matters (both DB and DC) with a focus on the UK, US and Sweden.
- Attending Trustee and Fiduciary Board meetings to convey policy and provide support to Boards
- Input into all aspects of investment policy, including setting asset allocation, investment manager selection, ESG and sustainability policy and risk management
- Helping to determine the Group’s liability management agenda
- Assisting in negotiations on funding and investment strategy
- Research into new potential investment managers and opportunities
- Preparing and presenting briefings to key stakeholders, including to the SVP Global Finance, Global Reward Committee, Audit Committee and CFO.
- Attend meeting/calls with key advisors and investment managers
- Working with AZ’s financial reporting team to provide key financial reporting information for the Group’s quarter ends, including collation and checking of asset values
- Liaising with Auditors, including organisation of pension deliverables
- Assisting with production of disclosures for Group’s report and accounts
- Leading on specific global, ad-hoc projects at the direction of the Global Pensions Director
- Other key tasks: consider Pensions Act 2021 implications, oversee administration of longevity swap, cash management, custodial/tax documentation, payment of invoices and contributions
Key Experience
The successful candidate will have the following experience:
- Some prior investment or pensions industry experience
- Knowledge of pension, financial and investment markets, ideally with some experience in asset allocation and derivative usage
- Full or partial specialist qualification – Investment Management Certificate, CFA or Actuarial
- High Proficiency with Excel
Key Skills
The following key skills are required:
- Excellent communicator, both written and verbal
- Able to draft clear, written papers and reports to a high standard
- Work under pressure, debate ideas and be able to respond to challenges in a positive and constructive manner
- Motivated and proactive, able to work as part of a team, but comfortable to work alone
- Able to take the initiative with a strong appetite to learn.
