Main duties of the job

Housekeeping Supervisor:

As a Housekeeping Supervisor you will be an active team member, working closely with Team Leader and housekeepers. The post holder will assist in delivering the provision of an effective and efficient housekeeping service at the Pears Institute and its associated facilities delivering a safe, clean and hygienic environment.

The successful candidate will have relevant experience of housekeeping and supervising within the hotel industry, healthcare sector, or a similar environment and also have extensive experience of dealing with the public. You will be confident in allocating and escalating job requests to Housekeepers.

This post requires a dedicated and reliable individual who possesses excellent organisational and communication skills. You need to be able work on your own initiative. Ensuring that all requests for assistance from residents in the Pears Institute, hotel guests and departments are met.

The Pears Institute will house the UCL Institute of Immunity and Transplantation (IIT). Designed by the internationally recognised Hopkins Architects, the new facilities will provide over 6,000m² of the best possible infrastructure for research, training and clinical care. There will be state-of-the-art laboratories, modern equipment and patient hotel accommodation. The Pears Institute will also house the Royal Free Charity and the Volunteering Team which is also managed by the charity. The new facility, which will be one of only five clinical research centres of its kind in the world.

  • RESPONSIBILITY FOR GUESTS

Deliver a cleaning service which achieves the RFLPS facilities management key performance indicators to the -Pears lnsitute. Hotel guests will attend the Royal Free Pears Institute for out patient services.

  • RESPONSIBILITY FOR POLICY AND SERVICE DEVELOPMENT

Implements policies for own area and proposes changes to own work area

4, RESPONSIBILITY FOR FINANCIAL AND PHYSICAL RESOURCES

  • Audit the performance and quality of the housekeeping operatives
  • Be able to respond to requests which at times may be unpredictable
  • Verifies relevant time and attendance records and authorise for payment
  • Manage the authorisations for annual leave and other unplanned staff absence to ensure seemless roster operation.
  • Actively monitor sickness and absence of housekeeping operatives an_d implement the RFLPS policy for sickness management in conjunction with the Team Leader, including sick reviews.
  • When required write. and present straightforward statement of case for Performance & Conduct meetings.
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of housekeepers.

  • Ensure sufficient stock is requested, ordered, delivered and maintained for housekeeping staff
  • Identify housekeeping operative,s mandatory training needs are fully satisfied and undertake training of housekeeping staff in cleaning duties, floor care, COSHH and basic Health & Safety
  • Fault finding on cleaning machinery, to report any mechanical or safety defects and the need for repairs to the helpdesk.
  • To complete the induction and training of all new staff
  • Inputting of cleaning standards data on the quality control system and complete any remedial action.
  • The monitoring of budgets, material's and staffing levels to ensure all remain within agreed limits.
  • Planning costed duty rosters and allocating work. All weekly rotas must be with in the agreed weekly budget and monitored
  • Responsible for the Knowledge Skills Framework (KSF) development review proces

5. RESPONSIBILITY FOR LEADING AND MANAGING

  • Pro-actively identifies recurrent service issues and implement agreed solutions under the direction of the Team Leader
  • Implements the appropriate activities from various facilities action plans
  • Action the Team Leaders instructions
  • To actively participate in the RFLPS appraisal system ensuring all staff are given appraisals as per RFLPS policy.
  • Initiate and report the results for local guest and employee surveys
  • Ensure the reporting and progressing of all relevant and outstanding requests to the Help Desk
  • Receive and action direct guest, staff and visitor feedback
  • Ensure the RFLPS uniform policy is complied with
  • Actively ensure housekeepting operatives work in accordance with the RFLPS infection control requirements
  • To ensure cleaning and hygiene standards are maintained through out the Pears lnsitution following agreed work schedules

  • Actively participate in cleaning audits
  • Address any areas of non-compliance with the RFLPS agreed service level agreements within agreed service level agreements
  • Undertaking appropriate risk assessments to proactively identify areas of non - compliance and risk and take action as appropriate
  • Implement pro-active measures to prevent the recurrence of service failures

Infection control is everyone's responsibility. All staff, both clinical and non clinical, are required to adhere to the RFL Group Infection Prevention and Control policies and procedures and the Health Act (2006) Code of Practice for the prevention and control healthcare associated infections and make every effort to maintain high standards of infection control at all times thereby reducing the risk of Healthcare Associated infections. ·


It is the duty of every member of staff to take personal responsibility for the prevention and control of infection, as laid down in the Organisations's policies and procedures which reflect the statutory requirements of the Hygiene Code.
