The Role
The Process Control and Automation Engineer will be responsible for a number of process safety and project engineering activities within the coke making department. You’ll be a key member within a multi-skilled team demonstrating a technical leadership and will champion engineering best practice across the team on a regular basis. You’ll drive continuous improvement across process safety and compliance, ensuring the best possible performance from the equipment and processes within the department.
The Process Control and Automation Engineer will be accountable for;
- Working within the improvement team for the department to develop and implement a co-ordinated strategy for the improvement or process control and automation of hazardous processes.
- Support and contribute in hazard identification and risk management activities as the Specialist or Senior Engineer for the area.
- Reviewing and updating of engineering documentation and drawings associated with process control and automation safety critical equipment, including supporting and leading management of change.
- Implementing the safety management system for Functional Safety to ensure full compliance with appropriate health, safety and environmental standards or relevant good practice guidance.
- Providing specialist knowledge for compliance topics and lead improvement plans to keep the area within the latest legislative requirements.
- Auditing and supporting the management of process control and automation critical equipment.
- Providing technical expertise for the process control and automation subject to the department, including training & mentoring of existing and new staff.
- Leading the development of new technologies within the department.

The Candidate
As a Process Control and Automation Engineer, you’ll hold solid experience in fast paced heavy industrial manufacturing activities. You’ll use this experience to provide the specialist services required for the department on Process Control and Automation. You will be qualified to a minimum HNC and ideally HND/Degree level.
You’ll hold a demonstrable background of continuous improvement processes, preventative maintenance techniques, planning and implementing maintenance stops, reacting to faults & breakdowns and dealing with contractors.
As the Process Control and Automation Engineer you will hold a high level of interpersonal and organisational skills with an ambition to progress your career to the next level. Ideally you will hold Chartership with a recognised institution and have expert level knowledge on process control and functional safety within hazardous industries.
We require applicants to have the ability to demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills and be computer literate. The ability to work without close supervision, yet under pressure and to tight timescales is essential.
