We are seeking a Patient Companion to join our team as a member of the temporary staffing/Bank team.
*
The main focus of this role is for the potholder to make an incredible difference in the patient volunteers’ lives, by supporting them though their trial with kindness and compassion.

Pay Rate: £13.00 per hour*
*
The Patient Companion must be able to empathise with our patient volunteers and be compassionate to their needs. The postholder must have good communication skills and a good level of English to be able to communicate with our patients and staff within the company. They must have good listening skills, be observant, respectful, caring, have a friendly nature with a willingness to learn and genuine enthusiasm to encourage others.*

Role and Responsibilities*
*
The main purpose of the role is to support our patient volunteers to ensure they have a positive and empowered experience when attending outpatient appointments and participating in clinical trials.
*
*They will be responsible for helping each individual attending their outpatient appointments to have timely access to services and providing support and communication throughout their experience which not only focuses on their scheduled appointment routines but also allows them to identify and discuss any aspects of their life that give meaning, hope, value and purpose, whilst recognising that each individual’s experience of participating in the trials is a distinctive and deeply personal process.

As an integral and valued member of the multi-disciplinary team, the post holder will provide support to individuals within the service, by role modelling and ensuring any issues of concern (including potential delays) are escalated and acted upon.

They will also be responsible for:*
- Attending to patient volunteers upon their arrival and welcoming them to their appointments.
- Attending to patient volunteers participating in clinical trials within the wards and screening area.
- When required, assisting patients with basic personal care, comfort needs and support them in moving or walking around.
- Alerting the clinical team when patient volunteers may need additional help or assistance.
- Maintaining confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Providing patients with refreshments and reading materials, whilst acting as an advocate and ensuring they are kept informed throughout their appointment.
- Listening to our patient volunteers, troubleshooting issues as they arise and/or reporting any issues to the Head of Outpatient Services.
- Providing patients with questionnaires and evaluation feedback forms to ensure we continue to strive towards improved experiences.
