About the Role:
Underwrite Political Risk business and support the FRS Political Risk Underwriting team in accordance with the business plan and within delegated underwriting authority.
About the Department & Team:
Financial Risk Solutions (FRS) underwrite credit and political risks through Lloyd’s of London and on Company insurance paper. These risks relate to non-payment and non-performance of private and public sector counterparties, and political perils such as expropriation or confiscation of assets by foreign governments, export embargo, forced abandonment, war etc. FRS clients are banks, corporates, trading companies, export credit agencies and multilaterals.
Key Responsibilities:
Follow the annual business plan for the Underwriting division in order to make appropriate decisions- Contribute and participate in meetings in order to share and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice as required by the FRS Head of London Markets and Political Risk Practice Leader.
- Contribute as and when required to the planning process through research and preparation of relevant materials
- Support the Political Risk Underwriting team with country, sector, and project research and analysis and review of client/deal specific information
- Ad hoc compilation of reports and presentations (using internal and external data) on the FRS Political Risk book for internal and external audiences
- Support project work associated with the new operating model of the Political Risk team.
- Develop relationships with customers, brokers, business partners, reinsurers and colleagues to maximise influence and achieve business objectives
- Develop knowledge of market dynamics and market cycles to support the performance of the underwriting team
- Working with both the Underwriting and Country and Credit Risk Management teams to support the review and analysis of the portfolio, and to identify progress towards business objectives
- Manage the compilation and reporting of FRS data as when required
- Act as liaison with the policy entry team as required, to ensure entry of policy information into the systems in a timely manner and ensuring accuracy of data with relation to both underwriting and aggregate exposures
- Underwrite insurance risks in accordance with the business plan and personal authority to meet business objectives

Skills and Experience:
Degree and/or Master’s level education in Politics, International Relations or a related field.- Keen interest in current affairs
- Strong analytical skills
- Self-starter and willingness to learn and take on responsibility
- Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to work in a challenging environment
- Intermediate level understanding of relevant software including Excel and other departmental software packages
- A high level of numeracy and literacy skills
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
- Good attention to detail
