ABOUT CSVPA

We are looking for a highly motivated creative practitioner/lecturer who brings their own industry experience and creative relationships, who understand the needs future of the creative industries, and are excited to work with our students to develop their understanding of career related areas of creative practice.

OVERVIEW OF THE JOB
To deliver outstanding teaching, learning and assessment across the Pathway within the Extended Diploma and Foundation programs to maximise learner progress and outcomes in meeting both student and college goals.

REPORTS TO
You will be directly responsible to the Head of Art and Design.

LOCATION
This role will be based at CSVPA Cambridge at the Bridge House Studios.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB

Teaching & Learning
Deliver outstanding teaching, learning and assessment through planning and preparation of classes, which enthuses and inspires students to reach their potential and promote enjoyment of learning
Apply a variety of effective learning styles, materials, resources, approaches, and methods, having regard to the individual student’s learning needs and according to the course type as well as differentiating between learners’ needs
Support and encourage students’ progression into the CSVPA’s HE courses where appropriate
Investigate/research your subject area to ensure students are receiving up-to-date information, trends, methods of working, materials, and processes
Induct students appropriately, to provide educational advice, counselling, guidance, and tutorial support to students, including individual learning plans as directed
Supervise students’ attendance and behaviour and follow up as appropriate, in accordance with the behaviour and attendance policies
Ensure the Scheme of Work and lessons are in line with The UAL specification and their respective objectives, and that these are shared with students, feeding back on materials, courses and lessons to academic and other managers/colleagues as required
Supervise and accompany students on excursions/trips, as appropriate, always ensuring their safety and welfare complying with college policy and procedures
Encourage students to participate in extracurricular activities and promote enrichment opportunities
Deal with student issues/emergencies as and when they arise

Contribute towards making a positive and productive physical environment that enhances learning

Assessment and Quality
Write reports on students when appropriate and directed by the course outline and college with clear formative comments and targets as to how to improve work, by deadlines given, and provide regular estimated grades and feedback as required.
Use both formal and informal assessment practices and procedures to track and monitor students’ progress across the year and keeping accurate and timely records.
Ensure accurate attendance records are kept for every lesson using the college’s electronic systems
Undertake and administer formative and summative assessments as set out by the UAL awarding body.
Provide relevant and timely feedback on achievement, progress and developmental needs to students, and other managers/colleagues, following informal and formal assessments.
Set and assess promptly regular weekly independent study to be completed outside of lessons in accordance with CSVPA’s and UAL’s Marking and Assessment Policy
Lead in the production and improvement of the Pathway Scheme of Work ensuring planned activity covers the breadth of the UAL specification and assessment criteria, and undertake other academic project work as directed
Develop materials and resources for the VLE to support and enhance student learning.
Use the VLE to keep students informed of course related matters, maintaining, and updating course, unit and project information regularly
Use the VLE to monitor and assess students ongoing project work and unit submissions
Attend all meetings when required, and attend/deliver INSET sessions as directed

Process / Procedures (including safeguarding)
Ensure a safe and secure environment for staff and students when they are working within the
School by consistent implementation of Health & Safety guidelines and risk assessments
Identify training needs making recommendations to your Line Manager and the Head of Art and Design as necessary
In line with standards and procedures defined within the PT handbooks, ensure duties as a Personal Tutor (PT) are discharged effectively.
Provide cover work when required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Skills Experience and Knowledge
Teaching experience 16+: essential
Industry experience and/or professional practice relevant to the program: essential
Strong IT skills with ability to use Microsoft apps, and Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop, inDesign: essential
Experience and knowledge of CAD and 3D modelling software: essential
Experience of using hand tools, wood sawing machines, 3D printing, laser cutting, portable power tools: essential
Experience of welding: desirable
Experience of ceramics and kilns: desirable
Knowledge of statutory 3D Workshop and equipment heath and safety: essential
Knowledge of 3D Design, product design history and theory, sufficient to teach a range of related topics at Level 3 and 4: essential
Experience as a pastoral tutor supporting students: desirable
Experience of teaching EAL students: desirable
Experience of working with learning support assistants to develop and agree strategies to support tutees: desirable
Working knowledge of The Professional Standards for Teachers: desirable

Qualifications
BA hons in 3D Design, Product Design or related degree: essential
MA/postgraduate in 3D Design or related field: desirable
Teaching Qualification: desirable
