The BOA Group is a Multi-Academy Trust of specialist academies located in Birmingham city centre, in the hub of the creative and digital industries. Though based in Birmingham, the academies recruit from across the wider Midlands region.

The BOA Group is a distinctive Multi-Academy Trust, which has grown from our first school, Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA). We now have 3 purpose-built academies as well as a fully operational Edwardian theatre (The Old Rep, Birmingham) within the portfolio.

BOA Digital Technologies a brand new 11-18 Free School welcoming its first cohort of Year 7 students in September 2022. The next cohort of year 7s will start in September 2023 and it is our plan to admit Post 16 students the year afterwards, continuing to grow year on year. Our vision is to offer a truly unique and distinctive education and provide a new model of teaching underpinned by digital skills and learning. Located in the heart of Birmingham’s growing technology and digital hub, close to industrial and academic partners, and with first-class facilities, BOA Digital is looking to meet the UK’s growing need for a high-class digital workforce.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced, confident and enthusiastic Head of Year (Pastoral Manager) to this non-teaching post. Reporting into the Assistant Principal, you will lead on pastoral support with all matters relating to student welfare and safeguarding.

You will encourage a climate of mutual support in which self-confidence and self-esteem can grow and an effective department team is established and nurtured.

We are looking for someone with:

  • A strong track record in pastoral support.
  • A good understanding of the importance of student welfare and safeguarding as well as the systems in place to support this.
  • Good administrative/clerical skills, particularly providing support in the preparation for and attendance of meetings, including taking and disseminating minutes.
  • Excellent diary management skills.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to build rapport, trust and confidence with pupils and their parents/carers and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • The ability to work in collaboration with colleagues to ensure the smooth running of pastoral support.
  • Exceptional personal organisation and time management skills.
  • Skills and knowledge of using Microsoft Office and MI Systems to record and access pupil data.
  • Presence, enthusiasm, good sense of humour and approachability.
  • An excellent record of punctuality.

Job Summary

Leading on all pastoral matters relating to student welfare and safeguarding, ensuring the smooth running of the pastoral support function.

You will encourage a climate of mutual support in which self-confidence and self-esteem can grow and an effective department team is established and nurtured.

Main responsibilities

· Lead the pastoral and safeguarding support function for current Year 7 students.

· Liaise verbally and in writing with pupils, parents, carers and both internal and external stakeholders building rapport, trust and confidence to ensure appropriate support is in place.

· Attend meetings/conferences regarding students’ welfare and support.

· Process letters, reports, flyers, newsletters, posters, forms and templates as required.

· Organise and attend meetings as necessary, preparing any paperwork and taking minutes and disseminating accordingly.

· Prepare information for and co-ordinate the production of student reports and incident logs.

· To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of changes to relevant statutory guidance and best-practice and ensure colleagues are updated accordingly.

· To attend and participate in academy and curricular meetings as well as INSET.

· To encourage and participate in cross-curricular activity.

· To support and promote the academy practice regarding discipline and professional conduct and support staff in their duties and professional development.

· To undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required at your initial place of work or at other locations in the Trust.

· Undergo any training/professional development required to perform the duties and responsibilities of this post efficiently and effectively.

· To be aware of the responsibilities under the provision of the Health and Safety at Work Act in terms of your own safety and the effects of your own actions on colleagues, students, and visitors.

· Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality, and data protection, reporting all concerns to the appropriate person.
