RSPCA Hertfordshire East branch is an independently run charity that helps provide animal welfare throughout a designated area of Hertfordshire.
We have a vacancy for a part-time Operations Assistant to work alongside our Branch Operations Manager. The vacancy is initially for 4 hours per day which can be worked flexibly between 8 am and 6 pm. The successful candidate will also be required to occasionally provide full-time cover for holidays and periods of sickness for which suitable notice will be provided where possible. there may be an opportunity for the hours to increase in the future should the work of the charity expand.
This is a vital and varied role where no one day is ever the same. We are seeking someone who is a fast learner and who can work with a minimum of supervision.
This is a growing role that will adapt and change over time, initially, the core responsibilities will include the following: -
· Office support: handling calls, maintaining phone records, updating information on Animal Shelter Manager, recording details of lost & found animals, creating social media posts, maintaining posts and animal profiles on our website
· Volunteer recruitment: assist with volunteer recruitment, help to maintain volunteer records, training, and provide ongoing support.
· Animal Welfare: Assist with animal intake, organising paperwork, arranging veterinary care for branch animals, organise boarding with fosterers or boarding facilities, assisting with behavioral and welfare checks of animals in our care, and help with rehoming of branch animals.
· Van driving: Help to transport animals between boarding facilities and veterinary appointments, move animals to other centers, and occasionally assist with the transport of owned animals needing veterinary treatment
· Fundraising & Education: Assist with sourcing suitable fundraising events, help with preparation, and participate in fundraising activities, help with educational talks
· Social Media - Manage the branch social media accounts
Experience & Job Knowledge
Proven experience of:
· Working with animals
· Strong knowledge and experience of animal behavior and husbandry, particularly cats
Skills & Competencies
· Ability to build successful relationships quickly
· Excellent written and oral communication skills
· Computer literate
· Effective time management
· Ability to manage own workload
· Valid full UK driving license

Special Circumstances
· Prepared to work some unsociable hours and weekends/public holidays – whilst this shouldn’t be a regular requirement we cannot predict when animals will need assistance so it is important that there is a degree of flexibility.
· Prepared to travel to different sites in the Branch area as part of the role
