Parks Warden
Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Permanent
Are you dedicated to keeping our Parks and Open Spaces safe and free from anti-social behaviour?
The Park Warden Service is dedicated to remove barriers to the use of our Parks, such as crime, anti-social behaviour, and environmental violations. Our team covers the entire City of Leicester, who work on their own initiative and risk assess actions and responses as they go. As an experienced team working with professional contacts, Park Wardens target the identified concerns of the public, issue Fixed Penalties and uphold Byelaws to make Leicester a safer place that fosters inclusion for all the diverse public communities we serve. As a resilient yet understanding individual who will promote reassurance to the public, you’ll be a valuable addition to our Park Warden Team.
Aside from targeted team working arrangements, you’ll mostly work independently with provided safeguards to cover a rota that embodies shifts from 10am to 8pm. This office work is from a central base shared with colleagues and managers.
This is a full time, permanent position working 37 hours per week on a rota basis which includes weekends and bank holidays. You may also be asked to attend staff meetings and staff training outside of normal working hours.
What you’ll be doing
As a uniformed presence, you’ll signpost users to services, whilst addressing poor behaviour through education and enforcement initiatives. You’ll conduct allocated site visits to complete Water Hygiene work, and Health & Safety checks. You’ll work closely with other teams forming our Street Scene response such as City Wardens, Outreach Housing Officers, Environmental Health Officers, Police Officers, carrying out education campaigns, building checks and facilitating contractor or event access to our many sites. Although much of the time is spent patrolling, you’ll respond to work requests and prepare statements or reports for possible court proceedings following on from the issue of Penalties or Byelaw enforcement.
What you’ll need
You’ll have extensive public contact skills, with the capacity to be trained in managing challenging behaviour. Previous enforcement experience would be ideal, as well as working in a direct customer liaison capacity. As a confident, diplomatic, and empathetic individual you’ll be capable of providing a calm yet assertive response to any conflicts or issues that may arise. You’ll have a strong sense of shared purpose and a keen understanding of imparted priorities and relevant legislation. You’ll be able to assess circumstances quickly and safely, ensuring personal and public risk assessment is a prime consideration when taking appropriate action. Using excellent verbal and written communication skills, and good IT skills, you’ll be able to liaise effectively with customers, colleagues, and professionals, ensuring customer care is the main priority. Must hold a valid driving licence.
What we can offer you
As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance. You’ll enjoy generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and the option of flexible working. We’ll also give you the chance to develop your skills and expertise with a variety of training and development opportunities. In addition, you can choose from a number of flexible benefits, including childcare vouchers, discounts on city buses and trains and help with relocation to Leicester, where appropriate.
