The Team
The Kirklees Parks & Greenspaces Development Team play a key role in delivering welcoming, accessible, and high-quality public spaces and landscapes to allow people, businesses, nature and wildlife to flourish.
By working together with our communities, partners and volunteers, the team aim to develop spaces that reflect the needs of local people whilst also supporting our commitment to tackle climate change.
We look to provide safe, clean, and vibrant spaces for people to visit and enjoy. These spaces help our residents stay mentally and physically well through opportunities to exercise and enjoy spending time outdoors.
We also offer access to facilities for formal and informal sports and play.
By providing environments and habitats that encourage nature and wildlife to thrive, the team work hard to improve and increase biodiversity across the district.
We now seek an experienced leader to join us, who can support the team to drive our projects and ambitions.
As one of two Parks Services Managers, this role will focus on leading a Parks Development Team who work on a range of funded and capital projects. You will also work closely with your counterpart to manage a range of outdoor spaces, recreational services, events, and activities.
You will support the Council to manage major parks, playing fields, landscape areas and resources, ensuring our facilities and services provided take into account customer expectations, service objectives and maximise opportunities to develop and implement sustainable improvements.
The Role
We are looking for someone who is passionate about their work, and has excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills in order to support and drive our projects, workstreams and ambitions.
As part of this role, you will:
- Manage staff undertaking a variety of environmental based activities.
- Ensure staff and resources are deployed effectively, in ways which maximise efficiency, value for money and compliance with legislation and service objectives.
- Work closely with other Managers to support service delivery.
- Manage projects, contracts, and budgets.
- Undertake research and produce reports.
- Ensure activities have effective performance management arrangements in place and demonstrate achievement of desired outcomes, compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and objectives.
- Engage with Councillors, stakeholders, and members of the public to deliver and improve services. Promote opportunities for business, community and “3rd sector” inclusion to achieve sustainability.
- Produce tenders and prepare bids to attract financial support.
- Provide a supportive framework so individuals and teams can strengthen their performance and contribution to deliver quality outcomes. Producing and implementing training and service plans to support this also.
