Locals 175 & 633 of the United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) Canada has an outstanding opportunity for a paralegal to do union-side labour law. We are seeking a full-time paralegal to join our legal team (currently a total of four lawyers plus a Director). We offer a supportive working environment and also a high degree of independence.
We are a Union made up of more than 70,000 hard-working Ontarians employed in almost every sector of the provincial economy.
The ideal candidate
- Has relevant litigation skills and experience, for conducting hearings either in front of an arbitrator or the Ontario Labour Relations Board or the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario;
- Has strong advocacy and negotiation skills, as well as strong research and writing skills;
- Has strong contract interpretation skills;
- Is a member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario;
- Commitment to the principles of trade unionism and social justice;
- Has a valid driver’s licence (the position involves travel throughout the province).
The successful candidate will have the opportunity for a full range of labour law practice, primarily arbitrations, matters with the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Human Rights Tribunal and other administrative tribunals.
