Job Title: Paralegal
Reporting to: Partner & Head of Family
Supervisory Responsibility: None
Main purpose of job
To provide cost effective administrative and secretarial support to the partner and other senior fee-earners in the team in the work of the family department
Undertake certain elements of fee-earning work under supervision but not as a designated matter handler
Key tasks include
- Carry out client work as allocated by the fee-earners
- To open and maintain files to expected standards
- To input data in to the firm’s computer system as required
- To receive and make telephone calls to and in relation to clients and attend upon clients as directed
- To liaise by phone and letter with all persons connected to the matter
- Generate suitable client care correspondence
- Deal with routine client enquiries and communications
- Manage the collation of matter start and matter completion data
- Deputise for the fee earner in their absence, passing urgent issues to another senior fee-earner for guidance
Miscellaneous
- Carry out any other duties as appropriate to the nature of the post as required
- Attend staff and departmental meetings as required
- Undergo such training as might be appropriate for the role
- Uphold the aims and principles of all the firm’s policies

This is a full time office based role

PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Knowledge of the procedures relevant to the area of work
- An effective communicator, both orally and in writing
- Personally efficient and well organised
- Ability to work under own initiative with minimal supervision
- Excellent client care skills.
- Proven numeracy and written skills with very good standards of presentation and accuracy
- Strong IT skills, proficient in using Microsoft office for tasks relevant to this role
- Excellent time management, with the ability to multi-task, prioritise and adapt to changing demands
- Enthusiastic attitude and approach to work
- Reliable and dependable with a flexible attitude towards work
- Ability to maintain absolute discretion and a high level of confidentiality
