Job description - Paralegal
As a Paralegal, you will work with the chief counsel, COO and Head of Compliance on a wide array of responsibilities. Your responsibilities will see you work between external and internal facing projects, working with a range of key financial stakeholders.
You can expect a lot of training and development in the role and should be a candidate with a lot of motivation to develop and progress. You may be in a position to progress into a solicitor position.
Key responsibilities - Paralegal
In this Paralegal position, your responsibilities will include:
- Work with senior colleagues to update and implement mandatory policies, procedures, and processes throughout the company in accordance with applicable laws;
- Work with senior colleagues to update and implement a compliance monitoring programme in line with FCA and SEC regulatory requirements;
- Ensure that policies and procedures are implemented, periodically reviewed, and are working effectively;
- Monitor and review policy/consultation documents and other regulatory developments;
- Perform anti-money laundering checks, including sanctions checks in relation to transactions, investors, future counterparties, etc. in close liaison with the investment team;
- Prepare and deliver compliance and periodic reports to the boards
- Liaise with external counterparties, compliance consultants, service providers and legal advisers to ensure compliance by Astra with its legal and regulatory obligations
- Support the in-house General Counsel
- Ensure that all staff in the company have a clear understanding of the rules that apply to them and the importance of complying with them;
- Serve as the point of contact on all compliance & AML matters and offer firm-wide compliance guidance to staff
- Some prior experience within the legal sector
- A top-class degree from a top university, GDL or LPC with a top academic record throughout.
- A great eye for detail, and the ability to keep many plates spinning at once.
- The confidence to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
- Ability to work under pressure.
