Gateshead Council is looking for an Assistant Child Pedestrian Trainer to help deliver a programme of pedestrian training working in schools across Tyne & Wear and Northumberland. This is part of the Schools Go Smarter programme and is funded until March 31st 2024.
About the role….
As part of an established team, you will deliver classroom-based and on-road pedestrian training, mainly to lower Key Stage 2 pupils. You will report to the Child Pedestrian Training Coordinator.
You will need knowledge of basic road safety; good verbal and written communication skills and good numeracy skills. You must be able to establish a good rapport with pupils and maintain safe control of pupils when out of the school setting. You should have organisational skills and experience of apply them in a work related environment.
Responsibilities will include: delivering training by giving clear advice and instruction in road safety to pupils both as a whole class (indoor sessions) and in smaller groups (outdoor sessions); demonstrating excellent practice as a pedestrian; being aware of and sensitive to pupils with special or additional needs; and ensuring the safety of pupils when outside of school grounds.
Duties include liaising with the lead trainers in participating local authorities (Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside and Sunderland) and collecting information to monitor the delivery of the programme.
Full training in child pedestrian training techniques will be given. Knowledge and experience of delivering training and working with children will be an advantage.
