We are an established care provider who provide Residential and Educational services to children aged 11-18 with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
We are currently looking for an Outdoor Education Instructor to join our passionate team.
About the Role
The Outdoor Education Instructor will support the Outdoor Education Lead in providing a challenging, varied, and appropriate curriculum that enables students to learn experientially, through direct guided experience using sensory awareness, active participation, and nature’s resources.
You will work in partnership with visiting staff to create pupil learning opportunities that align to Common Core, supports educational objectives, augments classroom curricula, and extends academic/social emotional growth.
As the Outdoor Education Instructor you will support in creating experiential activities and daily schedules tailored to learning objectives and pupil ILP goals.
You will be required to deliver outdoor sessions such as low ropes, bush craft, high ropes, archery; sports sessions including cycling skills; as well as problem-solving activities, arts and craft, and environmental activities.
Some essential qualifications are expected, others can be worked towards.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
· Support in assessing pupil growth through progress monitoring as appropriate in a timely manner
· Support in compiling and maintaining necessary records and reports for the purpose of maintaining accurate pupil records
· Support in developing and implementing a creative outdoor curriculum which also reflects ILP goals and data driven interventions for the purpose of providing access to the general education curriculum and modifying and/or adapting the curriculum appropriate to meet individual pupil needs
· Maintain appropriate pupil behaviour and hold high expectations in behaviour
· Participate in the development and implementation of behaviour strategies, adding key information to pupils individual risk assessments, with integrity, providing a safe learning environment for all students
· Maintain effective communication with pupils, staff, parents/carers, and administration for the purpose of collaboration and planning
· Participate in whole school CPD programme, for the purpose of increasing knowledge and ability to implement interventions with integrity and incorporate best practices
· Support in proficiently using technology to communicate, collect and monitor data, and compile reports for the purpose of efficiently reporting information and communicating
· Use pathways to support the decision making when planning activities for pupils’ schemes of work, monitoring pupil performance and making instructional/behavioural decisions as appropriate for the purpose of implementing effective interventions to facilitate pupil progress.
· Support in planning, implementation and attend termly residentials, in line with the School Improvement Plan
Requirements
· Experience working with SEMH pupils
· Be willing and able to work in a physically and demanding position in all weather conditions
· Collaborate effectively with pupils, parents, and other professionals
· Assume appropriate role as adult model, behaviour model and educator
· Assume other duties in line with the School Improvement Plan
· Ability to independently problem-solve, be flexible, support in the organisation of daily logistics and activities
· Be able to model good communication and to communicate and work effectively with professional staff and parents/carers
· Experience instructing a variety of outdoor activities
· Continue CPD, working alongside the SMT
Qualifications
You must hold at least one of the following qualifications;
· ERCA, SPA (RCI), NCWA (CWI), or other relevant ropes-based qualification
· Archery GB Instructor Award
· A walking qualification, such as BEL/ML/WGL/LL
· Level 2 Bushcraft Award or equivalent
· Mountain Bike Leader/ Instructor or other relevant cycling qualification
· A valid first aid qualification (desirable)
· Paddle Sports Instructor, ideally Canoe Leader, UK CC Level 2 or Core Coach
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £20,000.00-£25,000.00 per year
