Job Title: Psychometrist

Reports to: Director of Clinical Operations

Classification: Full-time/Part-time

Multiple posts at various sites: Edinburgh/ Fife/ Oban/ Aberdeen/ Dumfries and Galloway

Position Summary:

The post holder will be part of a multidisciplinary research team at Scottish Brain Sciences. It involves conducting a wide array of psychological assessments for ongoing studies at SBS. Guiding individuals through trial processes, administering neuropsychological assessments, and managing trial data are key responsibilities. Compliance with trial protocols, data entry, quality checks, and fostering adherence to high standards ensure the integrity of our research. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research in brain sciences while honing valuable skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following:

  • To undertake protocol-based psychological assessments of participants using standard psychological tests, including standardised, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with participants and study partners. Undertake specific assessments of participants in line with the protocol and as delegated by the Investigator and monitor their condition throughout their participation.
  • Ensure all adverse events are appropriately recorded and reported. Maintain accurate records and ensures all relevant information is documented in source data worksheets and patient medical records if applicable. Complete the electronic case report form in a timely and efficient manner. Obtain any missing data and resolve queries with the clinical investigators and trials management office. To observe the confidentiality of participant information at all times, in accordance with the Data Protection Act. Contribute to reports or presentations as required by the principal investigator or chief investigator.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, the research team and other professionals as appropriate to ensure that the trials protocol and Standard Operating Procedures are adhered to. Provide ongoing information, advice and support to individuals participating in research studies and their carers and act on any concerns raised in a timely manner. To support preparation for site initiations, periodic monitoring and safety reporting. The post holder will support the delivery of the various internal/external audits. Ensure the research studies are carried out efficiently and effectively whilst adhering to GCP guidelines and the EU directive. Maintain study site files and documentation in line with GCP.

Essential:

  • Minimum BSc/BA in a relevant field (e.g., psychology/nursing/social work).
  • Self-motivated, capable of collaborative teamwork, and proactive when working independently.
  • Proven track record of effective teamwork.
  • Experience in healthcare and/or social care settings.
  • Familiarity with clinical rating scales.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Proficient in maintaining accurate documentation and records.
  • Demonstrates personal dedication, enthusiasm, and a professional demeanour.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of ICH Good Clinical Practice principles.
  • Experience collaborating in diverse teams.
  • Background working with midlife and elderly populations.

The post-holder will be supported by the Director of Clinical Operations and the Study Coordinators. They will work closely with the Senior Psychologist and Chief Scientific Officer to develop cognitive skills and personal development.
