The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a talented and highly collaborative Assistant Director of Stewardship for the College of Natural Sciences.
The UT Austin College of Natural Sciences has 11 graduate programs and specializations ranked in the top 10 nationally, spanning the physical sciences, life sciences, computer science and mathematics. About 350 tenured and tenure-track faculty members teach and undertake research in the college’s 12 independent departments and School of Human Ecology, as well as at the McDonald Observatory in West Texas and the Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas. The college has the largest student population at UT Austin, with more than 12,000 undergraduate and graduate students. It is home to award-winning and nationally recognized STEM education programs, including the Freshman Research Initiative and UTeach. Among the college’s faculty are numerous members of the National Academies and winners of the Turing Award, Wolf Prize, National Medal of Science, and MacArthur Fellowship. The college has more than 78,000 living alumni and a strong base of individual, corporate and foundation donors.
Purpose
This position reports to the director of donor relations and stewardship. The assistant director of stewardship is an integral member of the Development Office team and will play an important role in the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the college’s donor stewardship program in order to strengthen relationships and enhance the donor’s giving experience.
Flexible on-campus schedule with an opportunity to work remotely on some days. Requires occasional evening, weekend and holiday work.
Responsibilities
Work with the director of donor relations and stewardship to determine the best strategies for effective stewardship and opportunities for developing new stewardship programs.
Responsible for a wide range of programmatic duties to ensure donor stewardship, donor recognition and communication plans for reporting on donations and impact.
Partner with gift officers, college departments and programs, and support staff to coordinate and execute next steps for fund administration, regular touchpoints and stewardship plans using the stewardship guide, donor matrix and tracking tools.
Communicate the impact of gifts by creating individual impact reports for top donors that inform and inspire. Work closely with the college’s communication team and the University Development Office’s marketing team to ensure consistent use of campaign messaging and branding. Assist with the production and assembly of in-house mail projects.
Coordinate key stewardship activities and projects like the Annual Letters and Student Letters Projects. Execute on stewardship next steps and deliverables, including donor reporting, donor recognition, donor notifications of scholarship recipients, meaningful touchpoints for major donors, and aspects of stewardship for capital campaigns, major gifts and annual giving efforts.
Work with the donor engagement team, departments and programs to support donor stewardship and recognition events. Coordinate event emails and invitations when needed.
Assist the director of donor relations and stewardship with streamlining the tracking system for stewardship efforts, assist with various donor constituent analytics and report regularly on project status.
Other related functions and duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and two years of increasingly responsible experience with fundraising, advancement services or donor stewardship programs, non-profit organizations or related fields. Must have high level of proficiency using Microsoft Office software and working knowledge of complex databases. Outstanding project management and organizational skills are necessary to be successful in this position. Excellent writing, interpersonal and verbal communication skills. Capable of working independently and under pressure, while also engaging with collaborative teams. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously in a large, complex environment. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential in this role.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Three to five years’ prior experience with a higher education fundraising program, in a donor relations, stewardship, or advancement services field. Prior experience composing, editing and proofreading correspondence and working with confidential information. Demonstrated experience interacting with alumni, donors, university administrators, deans, faculty and staff in a collaborative, proactive and professional manner. Demonstrated knowledge with commonly used business applications at the University of Texas at Austin, such as VIP, Eloqua, DEFINE, and Smartsheet.
Salary Range
$60,000 + depending on qualifications
