Location – King's Lynn

Contract Type – Permanent

Working Hours – Full time

Main Purpose of Job

Part of the Station Management Team, providing Management of the asset and leadership of the site team. Support the broader management agenda of the station whilst maintaining safe, flexible and reliable operations. This will require effective management of resources to deliver operational & business challenges in the most productive and cost-efficient way whilst delivering the planned commercial and performance targets.


The role will have direct management responsibilities for O&M Technicians, Team Leaders & Engineers, and will be focussed on the delivery of the asset operations and maintenance tasks. The primary focus will be on Operational Performance (including HSE) and it is expected that there will be a hand over of tasks between the O&M Section heads. With the joint focus of both sections heads on ensuring that the station is safe, compliant, reliable and available.


Its anticipated that the O&M (Operations) Section Head will focus on plant priorities in the Short & Medium term. With management of the team to deliver in the areas of Safety, Environmental, Compliance, Operational Performance and Reliability. It is expected that whenever possible Maintenance tasks will be completed by this team to maximise the benefit of the O&M multiskilling.


Principle Accountabilities


Health, Safety and Environmental compliance:

  • Support the O&M Manager in assuring that all legislative and corporate requirements & standards are adopted.
  • Assure that all operational & maintenance and engineering plant, equipment and process safety policies & procedures are complied with.
  • Assure that the Local and Business Targets (KPIS) are supported and delivered.


Operations and Performance Management:

  • Support the O&M Manager in the leading and management the operations performance.
  • Develop Operations Asset Strategy ensuring that all commercial opportunities are assessed and managed.
  • Work with the Performance Management team to assess plant performance and conduct RCAs for any issues.
  • Lead site standardization and best practice across shift teams.


Training and Competency:

  • Lead the site training and competency programme, involving information from PDPs, and core training to upskill team working with the Business Coordinator/s
  • Lead competency assessments for all of those on site.
  • Determine what training is required for roles.
  • Identify and develop cost saving opportunities for team management and skilling.


Asset Management Strategy:

  • Develop, maintain and enact the asset maintenance strategy (short term actions).
  • Determine and enact work which can be completed by suitability competent persons (Multiskilling)
  • Support the spares parts process on site, with the completion of Spare parts management between the short and O&M (Maintenance)teams and Business Coordinator/s
  • Ensure that defect resolutions are enacted within the relevant timescales using suitable resources.


Team Management (Development & Succession & Performance Management):

  • Demonstrate visible leadership and strong people management competence within the Long and Short term teams.
  • Promote employee wellbeing and encourage a positive team culture across all of the teams on site.
  • Create development opportunities for personal growth.
  • Ensure that all staff are actively encouraged & engaged in the RWE development processes and programmes.


Process & Compliance Safety:

  • Along with the O&M (Maintenance)Section head lead the Process Safety reviews on site, ensuring that the KPIs (PSLI), Process Hazard/Process Safety reviews and processes are maintained and communicated.
  • Ensure that actions are addressed quickly.
  • Lead the Plant mods (process change) process on site.


Budget management and cost control:

  • Ensure Operational expenditure is within approved budgets, plans, and delegated authorities, including capital expenditure and costs associated with outages.
  • Assist with the interface of capital review and assessments.
  • Ensure contract management systems for Operations are suitable.


Engineering Resolutions and Outage Delivery:

  • Work with RWE team with resolving engineering issues and improvements.
  • Engage with O&M (Maintenance)section head with Outage execution, Quality management and processes.
  • Adopt and lead the suitable outage delivery and execution process for reactive outages.


Engender a culture of innovation and Improvements:

  • Utilise the team members to prioritise and delivery innovation and improvements across the site (other sites)
  • Projects may be plant, process or people related depending on business need, such as reviewing non value adding tasks.

  • Able to make informed decisions and set the high standards of working on site & RWE.
  • Able to lead a strong team based environment, Strong ‘people management’ competence with suitable & sufficient practical experience.
  • Drives the goals and deliverables of the team and station forward, not necessarily putting their own ideals and goals ahead of the teams.
  • Leads by example in all aspects of station and team delivery.


Management qualities

  • Experience of managing teams, from forming to norming delivery.
  • Able to adapt management style with different personnel to achieve the desired outcome
  • Able to manage team tasks through effective delegation and tracking.
  • Able to ensure that team members feel empowered and supported into making the right decisions and delivering what is needed.
