About the Banking as a Service Division
Banking as a Service is a new division of Unlimit, which offers a new product line. This enhances and complements the main financial offer of Unlimit with a new state of the art banking and payments platform to be offered to institutional clients as a white label solution. The division is new and the product was developed from scratch, so this division operates effectively as a start-up.
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager that can act as the main support to the Managing Director of the Banking as a Service division, and work with them to lead the division to its next phase, from start-up to scale-up. We are looking for someone with an entrepreneurial global mindset, with a broad experience, but especially with product, operational, commercial and financial background. You will oversee Unlimit’s BaaS licensed and regulated infrastructure and will operate effectively in a highly cross functional context within the whole of Unlimit’s organization. You will have two main areas of responsibility, product and operational.
In terms of product, you will work as an interface between the commercial team of the BaaS division and the IT team of Unlimit to work on product fixes, product enhancements and new products to add to the current platform, as well as market launches. You will manage the IT department to ensure they deliver as per the spec requested by the clients via the commercial team, whilst at the same time working with Compliance to ensure all regulatory aspects are met. As part of this remit, you will also overlook the onboarding of new customers.
Operationally, you will look after the non-commercial aspects of the management of the division, for instance ensuring the customer services resources of Unlimit are trained to be able to support the BaaS clients, product training of new staff, recruitment and onboarding of new staff, reporting to management, etc. You will also look at the current operational processes strategically to see how to improve them to support the BaaS progression and growth.
What you will be doing
- Act as a trusted advisor and sounding board for the Managing Director on any business-related topic, becoming a deeply credible and well-connected executive, capable of providing clarity in a complex environment, with particular focus on scaling the team to support the BaaS growth ambitions.
- Help create the overall operational strategy for the business and lead the implementation of various projects across divisions and countries.
- Ensure that the Managing Director is informed and enabled to make accurate, data driven decisions.
- Own day to day operations and set the pace of the business. Analyse internal operations and identify areas of process enhancement.
- Build new scalable and sustainable business processes through collaboration with management level stakeholders and department heads.
- Support with organizational structure, identify gaps and lead strategic hiring to fill those gaps. Drive recruitment, onboarding and ongoing training for the BaaS division, while continually raising the bar and attracting new talent.
- In a second phase, you will build and manage a standalone operations team in conformity with all regulatory requirements, including compliance, finance, security/IT, and other operations functions.
- Work on specific projects assigned by the Managing Director in support of the ongoing development of the Unlimit BaaS division.
- In cooperation with the Compliance department of Unlimit, you will guide the regulated financial services BaaS business in preparing and completing regulatory examinations and audits.
What you will bring:
- 5+ years broad experience in financial services covering product, operational, commercial and financial roles.
- Expertise in financial products and regulatory compliance, including AML, e-money and payments.
- Experience operating in a BaaS provider is preferable.
- Proven experience in start-up and scale-up tech businesses.
- Good understanding of banking and payments operations and relevant processes
- Experience delivering client-focused solutions to customer needs.
- Proven results in identifying, attracting, retaining, managing and leading talent.
- Analytical expertise and data-driven decisioning skills, mastery of financial models, projections, etc.
- Demonstrable ability to communicate, present and influence key stakeholders at all levels of an organization, including executive and C-level.
- Proven ability to juggle multiple projects at a time, while maintaining sharp attention to detail.
- Self-motivated, ambitious, independent, organized and focused, together with strong orientation towards team culture and cross functionality
- Highly strategic but also willing to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty
Requirements:
- Graduate Bachelor’s Degree
- Additional Education: Certificate in Fintech or Fintech / Payments Certification
- Must have worked in the fintech and or Payments Space
- Proficiency in English
- Other EU languages would be desirable
