Operations Manager (Airport Energy Services)

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as our Airport Operations Manager for Airport Energy Services ( part of the WP Group), reporting to the Airport Energy General Manager. This key position within the Airport Energy business will manage and lead a range of fuel supply, distribution, management and infrastructure capabilities across UK Airports. This includes a multisite 24/7 airside mobile refuelling service to airport-based customers in England and Scotland.

Role Overview:
The Airport Operations Manager leads a diverse team of drivers at airports and fuel terminals including Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Edinburgh Airports. They ensure effective management through engagement and communication with stakeholders and delivering operational excellence and first class service for our customers and partners.
The manager supports and oversees a team of 15+ operations members, focusing on safety, compliance, and operational excellence. They hold responsibility for regulatory compliance, internal audits, maintenance programs, and product quality. Familiarity with airside operations is beneficial.
Responsible for maximising productivity within the operation whilst not comprising on quality and service, the manager will use a data led approach to improve scheduling and optimising our day to day shift activities. They are expected to make informed freight budget decisions and utilise performance data to achieve KPIs and support business growth.
Responsibilities of our Operations Manager:
- Learn all aspects of the business across Airport operations to support business success, people, resources and safety culture
- Manage and lead drivers and resources across Airport business to ensure effective 24/7 operation for customers.
- Management of our airport fuel infrastructure across all airports to ensure it always remains online for customer liftings and fully compliant with all relevant regulations and compliance requirements.
- Understand and own our bespoke fuel management and vehicle recognition technology.
- Collaborate with the wider Operations team to ensure full alignment with company processes, compliance, governance and systems.
- Provide operations and customer support to Stansted and Edinburgh.
- Champion SHEQ and provide leadership through the SHEQ committee.
- Demonstrate expertise in risk management, safety, quality, cost control, and time constraints for on-time, full delivery.
- Utilise fuel management systems and technology for efficient operations and accurate data.
- Deliver training in Airport and the wider business for inductions, professional development, toolbox talks, and promoting a safety culture.
- Work with central SHEQ management for incident management and investigations, including near misses and complaints, with root cause analysis and sustainable corrective actions.
Skills required of our Operations Manager:
- Knowledge of the Goods Vehicle (Licensing of Operators) Act 1995
- Demonstrable experience in managing a vehicle fleet
- Recent Certificate of Professional Competence in National Road Haulage Operations
- Computer literacy
- Strong organisational and planning skills
- Full driving licence (HGV 2 desirable)
- Positive attitude, proactive nature, and strong communication skills
- Strong administrative capability
- Self-driven with excellent communication skills for continuous improvement and building customer relationships
- High resilience in high-pressure situations
Good to have:
- Experience with vehicle technologies, such as Automatic Vehicle Recognition
- Fuel industry knowledge
- Airport airside operations experience
- Transport management experience
- HGV and ADR experience
