The UCSD Media Teaching Lab is dedicated to providing outstanding media production facilities, equipment, and technical assistance to UC San Diego undergraduate and graduate students, offering a wide variety of equipment available for use in photography, video, film, and audio production.
The Operations Assistant supports senior staff members in their instructional and administrative duties and covers shifts as needed at the Media Teaching Lab checkout desk. Other responsibilities include providing backup in the administration of the equipment checkout facility, production studios, editing suites and classrooms. May oversee student workers at the checkout facility, including providing work direction and guidance on department policy and operational standards. Assist department staff with projects and administrative tasks as needed. Assist faculty with special requests and classroom equipment setup and troubleshooting.
Responsibilities:
- Perform equipment checkouts and returns using WebCheckout software and appropriate management of equipment inventory.
- Assist students with registration and troubleshooting reservation system.
- Assist student workers with checkout overrides and equipment usage questions.
- Assist in organizing equipment and general upkeep of checkout facility and online inventory systems.
- Suggest and implement improvements to checkout workflow and other operations at direction of others.
- Provide guidance to student employees in the training, work direction and implementation of facility policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated experience in customer service or help desk environment, including experience handling in-person service requests.
Ability to communicate well both verbally and in written form with staff, supervisors, students, and customers.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact in a positive manner with diverse clientele with emphasis on flexibility and professionalism.
Strong verbal communication skills, especially in clearly explaining and articulating information professionally and accurately.
Basic knowledge of production equipment (cameras, lights, microphones, etc.) to identify solutions for student needs, preferred.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $33,900 - $70,052 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $16.24 - $33.55
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
