Vacancy: Vault Operations Assistant
Location: UK – Royston

Together for a cleaner, healthier world.
Johnson Matthey, a FTSE 100 company, is a global leader in sustainable technologies specialising in catalysis, precious metal products, chemicals and process technology. With operations in over 30 countries, we employ more than 13,000 people. Johnson Matthey uses science to make the world cleaner and healthier. Over the past two centuries we have built our reputation and place as a global leader through quality, integrity, and innovation.
Today, more than 93% of the group's sales come from products and services which provide sustainability benefits through the positive impact they have on the environment, resource efficiency and human health, but that’s not enough. We have ambitious plans for growth and need talented individuals to help shape and lead us into our next century.
As the Vault Operations Assistant, you will play a vital role in Johnson Matthey’s Precious Metal Management team, providing an efficient and professional vaulting, storage and despatch service for all precious metal holdings whilst conforming to Security and Health and Safety requirements.
Platinum Group Metal Services (PGMS) is a leading refiner and recycler of precious group metals. The growing demand for low carbon and responsibly sourced products is creating growth opportunities in critical metals recycling and secondary refining, and as the world’s largest precious metals recycler, PGMS is a key player in the circular economy.
Your responsibilities:
  • Ensure safe and secure storage of metal in the Safe and Vault, carrying out efficient weekly and monthly stock takes, and ensuring stock differences are within laid down limits
  • Receipt, weighing and checking of all material received into the Safe to guarantee weights are correct, only acceptable brands are taken and that each container is sealed and undamaged
  • Dispensing, packing, stamping and paperwork production for all metal leaving the Safe to agreed timelines, exact weights, and with correct packing
  • Receipt and checking of material, including bars, in and out of the Vault including loading and offloading from security vehicles and the safe stacking/storage of pallets using a forklift
  • Support with the ordering of all supplies and consumables for the area, together with the organisation of maintenance, repairs and replacements for the area
  • Management of the Vault stocks to optimise their use and reduce time spent in moving materials, whilst limiting risk to Johnson Matthey
  • Awareness of security procedures and liaison with JM Security over metal movements and general security issues, including security audits held by JM Security and external customers
  • Close daily liaison with PMM Back Office team regarding orders, airfreight shipments and receipts
Requirements for the role:
  • Excellent numeracy skills
  • Good computer literacy (full training on specific software used will be provided)
  • Good attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • A forklift licence holder is desired but not an essential requirement in the role. Training will be provided if required
  • Inventory management experience (desirable)
This role involves manual handling of weights of up to 25 Kg on a regular basis, and occasionally up to 30 Kg
Due to the nature of this role applicants must be non-smokers and have been free from nicotine products for at least 3 months
How you will be rewarded:
We offer a competitive compensation and JM Elements benefits package including bonus, excellent pension contributions and 25 days annual leave (varies for shift-based roles). Our JM Elements Benefits programme helps our employees understand and manage the JM benefits, as well as helping you focus on your overall wellbeing – for you and your family.
We use our inspiring science and technology to enhance lives. For those who are passionate about sustainable solutions and shaping our markets, we offer stretch and a wealth of diverse opportunities.
We’ll give you freedom to bring your whole self to work and be part of a team where difference matters and all voices are heard, that genuinely cares for you and where your contribution is appreciated. We’ll empower you to lean in and make things happen, to create solutions and value for our customers. United by our values and vision, we’re self-starters sharing the same values and accountability and always with a shared commitment to doing the right thing. We’re passionate about making a difference and delivering a better tomorrow for us and for you – a cleaner and healthier world, today and for future generations.
