The client is a global leader in commercial open architecture computing and rugged embedded electronics. The team in Edinburgh is responsible for all aspects of development, implementation, test, release and maintenance of our OpenWare software which provides the switch management functionality for all client switch products. OpenWare is wholly developed, supported and released from their Edinburgh Networking Innovation Centre. We require a flexible and knowledgeable software engineer with experience in the complete software development lifecycle gained in the successful delivery of software into COTS products. Abaco is an AS9100 Rev D company so we have the defined processes in place to meet these requirements.
Role Summary:
Working on software development projects within the focused team of professional software engineers developing and supporting OpenWare. Involved in the whole software development lifecycle from initial requirements gathering and analysis through to product delivery. The primary focus of the candidate and the team is the development of software which ensures our NETernity switch products meet customers' expectations. The role involves working across all parts of the OpenWare architecture which can stretch from the bootloader and Linux kernel through to the Linux system and switch control applications including network protocols and user interface.
A background in networking and protocol development would be beneficial.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Linux system and embedded software to support our range of NETernity switch products
- Develop test specifications and scripts to test network software during development and release
- Provide direct support to internal and external stakeholders to ensure our delivery commitments are made
- Communicate status to key stakeholders in a timely and professional fashion
- Produce internal documentation for assigned tasks consistent with our engineering processes
- Participate in the continuous improvement of Software Development Processes
Desired Qualifications/Requirements
- Degree in Software Engineering or related subject.
- An excellent understanding of C and GNU/Linux development environment
- Strong problem-solving, creative and solution-building skills
- Ability to work successfully in a team environment
- Experience in working through whole software development lifecycle
- Experience of scripting languages (Python, Bash, etc)
- Development experience in networking protocols (TCP/IP, Ethernet, etc)
- Experience in configuration management practices and tools (CVS, GIT, CIT, etc)
- Strong verbal and written skills
- Customer facing skills
- Exposure to Agile development methodologies
DESIRED WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Experience developing and deploying software in systems and embedded environments.
- Experience in working in an AS9100 Rev D certified environment.
