Our Aeronautical Services team play a key role within Flight Operations. No two days are the same; we are constantly working to ensure we have everything in place to guarantee the safe and efficient running of the operation. In this position, you'll be bringing your enthusiasm and passion for aviation to the team, maintaining and optimising data in various flight critical systems. Using your focus and attention to detail, you'll evaluate the impact to our operations of any data or airspace changes, providing strategic and tactical support to our 24/7 OCC team, together with navigation and Air Traffic Management (ATM) expertise to the rest of VA.
Day to day
Some of your key responsibilities as an officer within our Aeronautical Services team will be:

You'll then use this data to accurately maintain Flight Planning, NOTAM and FMS databases, navigation charts and related company procedures as well as deciding on the most cost-effective city pair routing solutions.
- Design and maintain required navigational chart content and specifications.
- Manage applications for operating permits and approvals for the scheduled and ad-hoc flying programme.
- Conduct block time/fuel burn analysis as required to support commercial planning.
- Develop good working relationships with third party suppliers and external partners (including regulatory bodies and ANSP's), to ensure the optimal outcome to VA.
- Analyse industry developments and changes to regulatory landscape within the Navigation and ATM field and present reports and recommendations to the Manager – Aeronautical Services and ATM, as well as providing briefings to other team members.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of third-party flight planning and navigation software and participate in the testing of new releases.
- Work closely with the aircraft fleet Chief Pilots and Route Operations teams on project management and delivery of regulatory changes in the CNS/ATM sphere.
- Undertake reconciliation and financial related activities in relation to monthly ATC user charge invoices (terminal and en-route navigation fees) and collaborate closely with relevant authorities as required. Maintain the budget programme for these fees on behalf of our Finance team.
- Work with multiple partners across Virgin Atlantic including Airports, Government Affairs, Finance, Network and Alliances, Safety and Engineering, playing an active role in ensuring the continued success of our operation
About you
Do you have strong desire to develop effective solutions to drive operational efficiency?
In addition to the above we'd love our successful candidate to demonstrate the following:
- Work to a very high standard, often under strict time constraints and with the ability to assess and juggle competing priorities in a dynamic environment
- Passionate about communicating confidently to a variety of audiences
- Good interpersonal and time management skills.
- Proficiency in MS applications (Excel, Word & Powerpoint).
- Ability to write clearly and concisely.
- Prior knowledge of flight planning, aircraft navigation systems, ARINC 424 and related subject areas is also highly desirable, but not crucial.
- Experience in supplier invoice management is also desirable
- An innovative problem solver, with excellent reasoning skills and a dedicated attention to detail.
