Job description
Company description
NanoSyrinx is an award-winning synthetic biology company focused on a novel targeted drug delivery technology with the vision of fundamentally revolutionising how biological medicines are delivered into cells. To do this, we are leveraging one of nature’s own elegant solutions: naturally occurring, bacterial protein 'nanosyringes', capable of encapsulating and delivering therapeutic payloads in a cell specific manner, with nano-scale precision.
As a discovery stage, seed-funded company, now is the perfect opportunity to join the growing NanoSyrinx family! You will be joining us at a pivotal time, with the chance to have a large impact on how the company and its technology develops toward future applications.
The company leadership team includes Dr. Joe Healey, the CEO and co-founder of the company, who conducted his PhD research on the technology in the lab of Prof. Nick Waterfield (co-founder) at the University of Warwick Medical School, Dr. James Lapworth, Chief Business Officer, who joined from Warwick Innovations, the technology transfer office of the University of Warwick and Dr. Marie McAvoy, Chief Scientific Officer, who has a wealth of experience on vaccines, biopharmaceuticals and cell and gene therapies gained from working in biopharm and pharma companies. The company’s leadership team is supported by a network of advisors including Dr. Jane Dancer (non-executive director - formerly CBO at F-Star and Cellzome), and Dr. Stephen Taylor (Exec Chairman - formerly SVP Commercial at Fujifilm Diosynth), as well as a veteran Scientific Advisory Board.

As an Office Manager & Executive Assistant, you will be primarily responsible for the day-to-day operations of the company offices, and assisting the leadership team with corporate affairs. An ideal candidate for this role will also be well versed in the use of Xero accounting software, and have experience in processing financial matters such as payroll, employee expenses, reconciliation of account transactions etc.
Please note: this position is maternity cover with the option of becoming permanent. As such, we welcome applications from applicants looking for temporary or permanent full time or part time roles.

As office assistant:
- Take ownership of the office operations and help us to build robust ways of working for the future, such as managing internal ‘infrastructure’ such as updating our handbook, policies and procedures.
- Perform day to day activities, such as document filing, answering calls and ensuring the smooth operation of the office.
- Organising and assisting with recruitment and onboarding for new employees
- An ideal candidate will have experience handling financial matters such as processing payroll and invoices, as well as dealing with expenses and travel etc., preferably being proficient with Xero.
To do so, the following criteria are essential:
- Able to prove prior experience or an aptitude for organisation/administration
- Highly organised and able to prioritise tasks, but able to handle rapidly shifting demands
- A strong sense of initiative and the ability to ‘make things happen’
- Proficient with all modern office software (Microsoft Office suite as a minimum, but GSuite will be a significant advantage, as will comfort with a Mac ecosystem)
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
- Reliability and discretion particularly when handling sensitive/confidential materials
And the following are desirable:
- Prior experience in Human Resources (such as handling staff enquiries) with a good understanding of the requirements of GDPR when handling sensitive data, and the ability to build compliant processes
- Proficiency with Xero for accounting and prior experience handling company financial matters such as payroll, expenses etc
- Familiarity with compliance filings, such as Companies House statements and HMRC processes
- A sciences graduate or experience working within the biotech/research space, or within academia would be advantageous
