Job description
Reading Welfare Rights - Office Administrator
In 1988, we began supporting vulnerable people in Reading who were facing hardship. Since then, we’ve worked hard to alleviate poverty, sickness and distress in Reading. This is a real labour of love and often involves a tough fight with the DWP, but we’re good at what we do – and we rarely lose a case!
The vast majority of the people who come to us for help have complex needs. We regularly communicate with our clients over a number of months. This allows us to form professional relationships with them. We get to understand them pretty well: and this is why we are so much more than an advice charity.
To help us deliver this valuable service, we're looking for an Office Administrator to join our friendly and supportive team.
Essential:
1. Deal with incoming phone calls, update and maintain Charitylog casework software system accordingly
2. Ordering stationary and maintain adequate supplies
3. Provide admin support to the rest of the team
4. Assist the CEO with recurring admin tasks such as compiling the quarterly performance report
Desirable:
1. Manage the Advisor (shared office inbox)
2. Work with the rest of the team to ensure that social media and other online content remains current
3. Assist with door-to-door sessions to help identify new clients
4. When time permits, assist the Policy Officer with her research projects and the Senior Caseworker with his work regarding Personal Independence Payments
5. Any other reasonable duties that fit within the remit of a generalist administrative role in a small welfare rights charity.

- 30 hours a week
- Hourly rate: £12.98

- Flexible working policies and procedures
- Working at the heart of Reading’s voluntary sector as part of “The Tackling Poverty Partnership” with 6 other local charities and as part of the wider charity sector in our town; you will be helping to make a difference to the people of Reading.
Person Specification
A great communicator with exceptionally strong administrative and customer service skills and experience. You will have a fantastic telephone manner; demonstrating empathy and good listening skills, but also an ability to lead conversations and manage expectations, gently but firmly pushing back with clients when required.
