About the role
As a Senior Data Privacy Counsel you will lead the firm’s Global Data Privacy Office (GDPO), managing the members of the GDPO and its daily operations, and will be responsible for ensuring that the firm complies with privacy laws across the globe. You will also be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining firmwide and departmental policies, standards, procedures and guidelines related to data privacy. Other key responsibilities include:
- Working with the Data Privacy Committee to set standards and review policies and procedures globally, and to develop strategies and initiatives to ensure engagement with key internal stakeholders.
- Managing the global operations of the GDPO, hiring, supervising, training and coaching team members, and ensuing goals and objectives of the team are met. Leading the team toward accurate and timely completion of assignments and responses to inquiries.
- Ensuring that firm contracts are reviewed by the team in a timely fashion and have appropriate provisions to ensure compliance with privacy laws; assisting team with drafting and reviewing relevant contracts and necessary consents.
- Keeping up to date with changes to local privacy laws, including attending relevant conferences and working with a network of attorneys in Latham & Watkins offices worldwide.
- Working with others in Information Governance, the Security and Risk Management department and the Security Committee to raise awareness of data privacy and security issues and provide training on the subject matter where needed.
About you
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
- Excellent leadership skills (e.g., organizing, planning, problem-solving and decision-making) necessary for effective supervision
- Highly developed and professional interpersonal skills; ability to interact and communicate effectively with people at all organizational levels of the Firm
- Excellent organizational skills needed to manage time well, prioritize effectively, and handle multiple deadlines.
- Strong analytical skills needed for all primary duties of position, including comprehending and communicating information.
And have:
- Demonstrable and relevant experience practicing law and/or working in a Privacy team
- Experience working at a global law firm setting desirable
- A law degree or equivalent.
- Qualified as a solicitor, barrister or equivalent foreign lawyer with an unfettered right to practice in their home jurisdiction.
