We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join our team based at our Redhill site on a Hybrid contract. This role is being offered on a 12 month FTC. Acting as legal advisor on a wide range of internal and external matters both in the UK/IRE and internationally, the Legal Counsel is responsible for ensuring the provision of high quality and effective day to day legal support for all areas of AXA Partners’ UK & Ireland and the Travel BL including new business activities, relationships with business partners, product development and operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing business partnering support on all legal matters, by liaising with local in-house or external legal advisers if need be
- Drafting and negotiating the legal content of commercial agreements for the UK & Ireland and international commercial agreements, in particular insurance/reinsurance and distribution/binding authority agreements
- Involvement in special projects as required (including corporate restructuring, regulatory change, etc.)
- Focus on early warning on any emerging issues, including legal or regulatory changes
- Ensure that work is progressed in a proactive and commercial way offering solutions and alternative approaches where appropriate
- Demonstrate high levels of visibility maximising opportunities to meet face to face (within travel restrictions)
- Working with the Head of Legal to manage the workload, demonstrating efficiencies in terms of cost and time
- Working with the Head of Legal to ensure that the business team receives high quality and effective advice and strategic guidance on relevant aspects of its operations to ensure legal, regulatory and control considerations are given appropriate weight and legal risks are managed/mitigated appropriately
- Work closely with the central compliance team, to manage day to day relationships with regulators and ensuring compliance with applicable national legal and regulatory requirements
- Ensure appropriate escalation of issues and matters requiring approval
Your Profile
- Qualified lawyer with at least [3] years legal experience in the insurance sector in the UK with an international company
- Excellent understanding and experience of insurance regulatory framework in the UK and the EU
- Being highly organised and able to prioritise their work to manage and successfully meet competing business demands within tight timescales
- Ability to present complex legal and other information clearly, accurately and in a way that can be understood by the relevant audience
- Experience in commercial negotiations with proven drafting and negotiation skills
- Flexible, adaptable, able to challenge the status quo, sound commercial sense and the ability to make pragmatic decisions
- A self-starter with the ability to work autonomously
- Ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal) in English.
