About the role

To provide technical support on behalf of the Community Occupational Therapy Services to assess for and provide equipment and/or adaptations to the clients within their home environment.

What will you be doing?
  • To assess, identify, implement, monitor and evaluate the care plans for client cases allocated to you:
    • Demonstrate an awareness and understanding relevant to medical conditions within area of speciality and their impact on function.
    • Carry out specific assessments and intervention for own caseload, making recommendations and specifying equipment/adaptations as required. This will include clients who have difficulties understanding and communicating i.e. sensory impairment e.g. deafness, blindness, dysphasia and depression and other Mental Health problems.
    • Gather information and assist senior staff to evaluate the information for own clients as required and those delegated by other clinical staff.
    • To review and modify as necessary clients care plans prior to reporting back during normal supervision session.
    • For delegated clients, be responsible for the writing and implementation of care plans, having first agreed the priorities with the client.
    • To make informed decisions about any change in client's condition/circumstances when working without direct supervision and feed back to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
    • Work with senior staff to apply evidence based practice or best practice in the work setting.
    • Show awareness of safety issues and risk assessment including Moving & Handling prior to and during assessment and intervention.
    • Assist the Team Facilitator with day-to-day Health and Safety monitoring within the department so contributing to the department risk assessment.
    • Assist in the supervision of other members of the Occupational Therapy support team including students in the delivery of Occupational Therapy interventions and assist/ provide feedback as appropriate.
    • Monitor own intervention and effectiveness, supporting Occupational Therapy Support Workers and providing guidance where appropriate.
    • Monitor outcomes using accepted measures.
    • Collect accurate and timely data / information to contribute to department service standards and procedures.
    • Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of National and local Health Promotion issues and incorporate them into own work.
    • Recognise how own attitude and lifestyle can influence and impact on performance.
    • To offer specific technical expertise to new and junior staff and locum staff.
    • Promote and project a professional profile of Occupational Therapy.

  • Effectively manage and prioritise own day-to-day caseload I work schedule.
  • Delegate to Occupational Therapy Support Workers and support them to carry out these tasks.
  • Assist senior staff in undertaking projects and see them through to completion within agreed time scale.
  • Accept personal responsibility for the actions and quality of own work and that of those supervised liaising with other senior staff.
  • Feedback constructively and appropriately to line manager and other staff.
About you
  • NVQ level Ill in care related topic or good standard of education equivalent to

GCSE or BTec.



  • Standard IT literacy in Word, Excel, email, web browse.
  • Well-developed communication skills, including interpersonal skills, liaison, influencing and negotiation.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to work on own without immediate support.
  • Ability to organise own workload.
  • Numerate.
