An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor post in the Therapy service based at Bowmere Hospital, Chester. You will be working with adult mental health service users, who are experiencing acute mental illness requiring inpatient care. Occupational Therapy aims to support service users toward independence and safe discharge, using a person centred approach.
You will work as part of the Occupational Therapy team to facilitate a varied programme of therapeutic activities, working in small groups or individually. Therapy interventions may range from supporting a person with daily living skills, to managing anxiety, and taking part in leisure activities - no two days are the same. You will help Occupational Therapists with assessments and intervention, and also contribute to keeping the Therapy department welcoming and maintained, and work as part of the ward team. This post is full time, Monday – Friday 8.30-4.30pm.
You will be working within a busy hospital environment and enjoy being in a team. You should have had relevant previous experience, and can demonstrate understanding of person-centred care and the 6Cs.
This post would suit a motivated and organised team worker who has a genuine interest in promoting wellbeing for people experiencing mental illness. It would also suit people who enjoy creative problem solving, doing practical activities and engaging with a wide range of people.
Applicants will be required to have evidence of relevant experience and have an understanding of person centred working and the 6 Cs.
Our Therapy team includes Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and a Fitness service. We have a well resourced Therapy department within Bowmere Hospital and a large gym.

All new clinical support staff will be required to have completed or working towards the Care Certificate (CWP In-house 2 day training to be completed within 6 months of start date).
Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. A small annual fee of £13 per year applies.
New entrants to the NHS will commence on the minimum of the scale stated above.
