Occupational Therapy Support Worker Hengoed, Wales

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board
Full Time Hengoed, Wales 22056 - 23525 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

An exciting opportunity has become available for an Occupational Therapy Support Worker to join the Older Adult mental health service within Caerphilly. This posts offers an excellent opportunity for someone with experience of support work to develop their skills in working with older adults, including individuals living with dementia and other mental health difficulties.

Based with the team in Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr the post holder will be expected to work over four days with some flexibility around hours in order to meet the needs of service users and also to achieve a work life balance.

The post holder will be required to work collaboratively across wide-ranging third sector services and agencies to support mental health recovery, social inclusion, maintenance of skills and to enable independence.

The position is part time for 26.25 hours, over 4 days per week.

The post holder will work within the community multi-disciplinary team providing Occupational Therapy interventions in the local community under the direction and support of a Senior Occupational Therapist during the week.

Occupational Therapists work with people to establish the impact of their mental health issues on their day to day occupations (the things people want or need to do to live a personally meaningful life). They devise person-centred plans for intervention, for example group interventions (including facilitation of the Recovery Through Activity OT programme) and one to one interventions utilising meaningful activities with the person to further assess, improve or maintain their occupational skills. Interventions offered aim to maximise opportunities to engage in meaningful occupations and to address individual goals.

The OT service is committed to delivering a high quality service and therefore requires that all OT support workers participate in the Agored training programme which offers excellent opportunity for development.

The successful applicant will:

  • have excellent communications skills
  • have the ability to think creatively and flexibly
  • be able to demonstrate empathy, compassion and values of person-centred care.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
