Job overview

We are looking for an experienced band 5 or existing band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Medicine and Oncology Occupational Therapy Team.

You will hold a complex caseload and be involved in the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of patients who have complex physical and cognitive needs. You will be involved in delivering an OT service to help patients manage their own conditions where possible and enable them to be discharged from hospital. This may include managing their symptoms. The post will involve working with oncology, respiratory, renal, haematology and palliative care patients. You will have excellent communication skills and a wide range of clinical skills within these areas. Experience in orthopaedics and neurology would be advantageous. An interest in service development to progress patient care would be desirable in working in this progressive and dynamic team.

Main duties of the job

Please refer to job description and person specification for full details. Within your role, duties will include but may not be limited to:

Working as part of multidisciplinary teams on a variety of wards.

Assessing and treat patients as appropriate in the relevant areas.

Providing supervision to more junior staff (including Band 5, support and student members of staff) including appraisals.

Deputising for the Band 7 team leader as appropriate.

Working flexibly - including working rostered weekends.

Working alongside the band 7’s and seniors in the team to develop the service in line with evidence based practice and lead on projects.

Supporting student placements within the team and providing formal and informal training.

Be able to provide planned and unplanned care.

Manage complex discharges including assisting patients to manage their own long term conditions and provide rehabilitation.

Provide symptom management for patients.

You will work alongside a team of Senior Occupational Therapists and Team Leader.

There is also a requirement to contribute to the weekend and bank holiday rota.
