Main duties of the job

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Main duties include:

To assist the midwife in caring for pregnant women. performing clinical duties such as

  • Taking temperature, pulse and blood pressure
  • Maintaining fluid balance charts
  • Taking blood if trained or undertaking training and assessment to acquire these skills
  • Responding to call bells
  • Obtaining and testing mid-stream urine sample
  • To assist staff in maintaining clients well-being and dignity in a safe environment.
  • To assist staff in maintaining client confidentiality and privacy.
  • Assist with offering food and beverages to women in liaison with the midwife/nurse
  • Deliver and collect items from other departments as necessary.
  • Help to keep all areas of the ward environment clean and tidy.
  • Support and assist women with the initiation and maintenance of breast feeding following appropriate training.
  • Perform baby bath and nappy change demonstrations.
  • Escorting women and their babies to ward areas and other departments as agreed/requested by the midwife. This may involve the use of wheelchairs or beds and trolleys.
  • Preparing treatment areas and equipment as requested including maintenance of stock levels
  • Assisting the scrub nurse / midwife in the operating theatre after appropriate training.
