JOB DESCRIPTION Qualified Nursery Practitioner
We are expanding our Crossway team and are looking to employ a qualified nursery practitioner to join the Crossway Family. We are a family run business with 2 small nursery settings in Caldicot and we’re offering new recruits the opportunity to;
− work within a dynamic, friendly and very experienced team

We require a practitioner who is not only qualified to Level 3, but who is also able to;
- Read a story with your legs and arms readily available to be used a busy road or train track for other little people
- Babble and report back to a one year old, in THEIR own language confidently and with ease
- MULTI-TASK!
- Sing nursery rhymes whilst dancing and prancing like nobody’s watching
- Role-play….have your hair curled, cut, put up…..have your limbs and head bandaged….eye patches applied…medicine given….temperature taken…..be the BIG BAD WOLF and coming knocking on their imaginary door….turn a regular stick into a magic wand, lollipop, or sword…..
- Be available for cuddles and stories at the drop of a hat or tap on the leg

Here comes the more formal bit....At Crossway Nursery Group LTD, our nursery practitioners;
▪ Ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children placed in the nursery
▪ Give support to other personnel and management within the nursery
▪ Implement the daily routine in base rooms and contribute to planning, observation and assessment.
Key areas for our practitioners;

Responsible to:
Nursery Owner/ Manager/ Deputy Manager/Room Leaders
Duties and Responsibilities
▪ Assist in planning daily activities and monthly topics with learning and development goals in mind for each individual child.
To safeguard all children and ensure their safety at all times, and carry out your role and responsibilities as a Safeguarding Level 1 nursery practitioner.
▪ Maintain and prepare development files and records for children and babies.
▪ Assist and support children with additional learning needs and give physical, emotional, intellectual guidance as appropriate.
▪ Support all staff and engage in a good staff team.
▪ Liaise with and support parents and other family members.
▪ Attend staff meetings outside working hours
▪ Undertake certain domestic jobs within the Nursery, for example, preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment.
▪ To attend out of working hours activities, e.g. training, staff meetings, parent's evenings, summer fayre and Christmas activities.
▪ To be flexible within working practises within the setting be prepared to work where needed and undertaking certain domestic tasks, e.g snacks
▪ Recording accidents/incidents in the books provided
▪ Ensure child is collected by someone known to the setting
▪ To respect the confidentiality of information received
▪ To develop your role within the team
▪ Work alongside the Manager and staff team to ensure that the philosophy behind the nursery is fulfilled.
PERSON SPECIFICATION for Nursery Nurse
Experience
▪ Experience in a nursery setting
▪ Experience of working with children aged 6 months - 4 years
Education/Training Qualifications
▪ Level 2 or 3 Early Years Education and Childcare qualification
▪ NVQ
▪ NNEB
▪ Other acceptable qualifications as stated by the Childcare Workforce Development Council
(www.cwdcouncil.org.uk)
▪ Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (Desirable, training will be given)
▪ Paediatric First Aid
▪ Safeguarding Training
▪ Prevent Training
Specialist Knowledge
▪ Knowledge Of The Children's Act
▪ Knowledge of Wales National Minimum Standards
▪ Knowledge of The Foundation Phase
▪ Knowledge Of Health and Safety, Risk Assessments
▪ Knowledge of Key Worker Systems
Skills and Abilities
▪ Be able to work as part of a professional Childcare team
