The SDA has an exciting career opportunity for an experienced and motivated Nuclear Engineer or Scientist to join our team. In joining us, you will integrate with highly skilled professionals to support some of largest and most complex engineering programmes in the world. You will work at the forefront of marine technology to oversee engineering challenges unique to this industry, whilst contributing to project success and providing support to the Royal Navy.
As an integrated Nuclear Engineer and SDA representative, you’ll have the opportunity to lead on complex capabilities relating to in-service and post-use Nuclear Reactor Cores. You will provide specialist oversight to core component design across several lifecycles, including in-service support, manufacture, design and disposal. You will be a competent engineer, scientist or physicist with experience or cross-transferable experience from a highly regulated industry and an interest in nuclear propulsion, complex engineering and defence.

Due to the nature of this work, working with project teams and suppliers is critical to success. You will therefore be required to uphold strong and productive relationships and provide subject matter expert advice to SDA teams and our contractors. Occasional travel between sites may be required. However, your primary place of work could be either of the following two locations:
· MOD Abbey Wood, Filton, Bristol BS34 8JH
· Rolls-Royce, Derby, Derbyshire DE24 8BJ

This post may be eligible for the NSQEP Recruitment Retention Allowance of up to £12,000 per annum. This allowance is discretionary and will be dependent on a candidate's ability to successfully demonstrate the necessary competency, qualifications, and experience to an independent panel of Subject Matter Experts.
Responsibilities
· Be the Technical Lead for core components across all lifecycle phases. A technical lead is expected to understand the requirements and design intent of the components in their area of responsibility. Managing and advising about challenges to that design intent and delivery of requirements.
· Provide robust and under-pinned technical assurance, advice and support to Delivery manager
· Provide robust and comprehensive technical advice and support to Projects and Safety Section, such that they can deliver technically assured outputs
· Monitor and implement NPPT governance and technical assurance policies and procedures to ensure the ‘safe & professional’ status of the in service core area. Produce, and periodically review and amend documentation, as required, to define Governance arrangements
· Responsible for technical decisions and approvals within scope when suitably developed into post
· Interface with industry as the intelligent customer both in a scrutiny role and supporting the identification of application risks
Person specification
To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
· Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or Scientist or has demonstrated equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
· Relevant Level 4 (HNC or higher) qualification or equivalent experience
· Experience of providing technical advice and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes.
· Experience undertaking technically or safety responsible roles in highly regulated industry

· This post is on the MOD Civilian Nuclear Post Control List (PCL) and may attract the Nuclear Recruitment and Retention Allowance (RRA). This is a discretionary allowance. The post being listed on the PCL does not mean that the post holder will have an automatic entitlement to receive the RRA. The NSQEP RRA is not a contractual allowance and can be amended or withdrawn without notice in line with MOD Main and Submarine Delivery Agency policy.
