San Francisco Public Works (SF Public Works) currently has an open position for the role of Clerk (1404) within our Operations Division.

Operations Division
The Operations Division delivers essential services around the clock with street cleaning, street and sewer repair and maintenance, and repair services for civic buildings and structures. Operations staff also provides graffiti removal, sidewalk maintenance, community partnerships to advance cleaning and greening initiatives, code enforcement, workforce development, and apprenticeship programs, urban forestry care and tree planting, and landscape services.

Appointment Type: Temporary-Exempt (TEX), Category 18. This position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive Civil Service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the Appointing Officer. Job Description


With the guidance of general supervision, you will assist with the implementation and tracking of recommendations from a detailed analysis, such as process improvements between operations bureaus and non-operations bureaus around building repair and design, street resurfacing curb ramp delivery and monuments, sidewalk repair, and asset management. You will play a key role in indexing the documents, reports, and analyses done to ensure that data is accessible and in accordance with policies.

Important and Essential Duties:
Your duties and responsibilities as a Clerk may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Filing, maintaining, and retrieving documents, records, and correspondence in accordance with established procedures. Codes and indexes documents, records, and correspondence.
  • Checks and reviews a variety of documents for completeness and accuracy.
  • Compiles information and data necessary for the preparation of various departmental reports in which judgment may be exercised in the selection of data and materials.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of reports in which judgment may be exercised in the selection of data and materials. Disseminates information and answers inquiries by communicating with the public, departmental personnel, and other departments.
  • Operates office equipment, including calculators, photocopying equipment, adding machines, computer terminals, document imaging, and postage meters.
  • Processes mail: open, time stamp, sort, and distribute the incoming mail; fill and seal envelopes; make daily pickups and deliveries to ensure timely mailing and receipt of mail.
  • You may be assigned additional duties to meet operational needs.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:

Experience:
One (1) year of clerical experience including preparing and maintaining a variety of records and/or documents, filing, use of office equipment, public contact, and processing of incoming and outgoing mail.

Substitution: Any one of the following may substitute for six (6) months of the required experience:

Completion of a clerical training program (240 hours).

OR

15 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university; OR

Completion of an approved City and County of San Francisco Clerical Administrative training program (as designated on the job announcement).
